Itinerary Highlights
Days 1-2: Arrival & High Tatras Introduction
Day 1: Arrive Poprad, transfer to Strbske Pleso at 1,346m. Orientation walk around the glacial lake, welcome dinner at a koliba. Day 2: Hike to Popradske Pleso (1,494m) — a stunning alpine lake with a historic mountain hotel (built 1880s), with 360-degree views of the surrounding peaks. Continue to the symbolic cemetery at Ostrva where fallen Tatra mountaineers are memorialized.
Days 3-4: High Tatras Peaks & Valleys
Day 3: Trek into Mala Studena Valley to Teryho Chata (2,015m), Slovakia’s highest hut. The trail climbs through dwarf pine forest into alpine terrain with waterfalls and glacial cirques. Sunset from the hut is unforgettable. Day 4: Cross the Priecone sedlo (2,352m) — the Tatras’ most spectacular high pass — and descend to Zbojnicka Chata. Hike through the Velka Zmrzla dolina (Great Frozen Valley).
Days 5-6: Slovak Paradise — The Gorge Adventures
Day 5: Transfer to Slovak Paradise. Hike the Sucha Bela gorge — climb wooden ladders, cross chain-secured walkways, and navigate narrow limestone canyons with waterfalls. Day 6: Hike the Prielom Hornadu (Hornad River Gorge) — a dramatic trail on wooden platforms bolted to the cliff face, following the rushing Hornad River. Visit the Dobsinska Ice Cave (UNESCO).
Days 7-8: High Tatras Grand Finale
Day 7: Cable car to Lomnicky stit (2,634m) — Slovakia’s second-highest peak, with a viewing platform offering 360-degree panoramas of the entire Tatra range. Hike the alpine trail from Skalnate Pleso (1,751m). Day 8: Visit Morskie Oko on the Polish side — the largest and most famous Tatra lake. Farewell dinner with Slovak folk music.
