Yunnan Tours
Shangri-La, Ancient Towns & the Stone Forest — China Most Diverse Province
Explore Yunnan
Yunnan is China in miniature — 25 ethnic minorities, snow-capped Tibetan peaks, tropical rainforests on the Burmese border, and the legendary Shangri-La. From the cobblestone lanes of Lijiang to the turquoise waters of Lugu Lake, Yunnan offers more diversity in one province than most countries.
Our private Yunnan tours take you through this kaleidoscope. Cycle through Tibetan villages around Shangri-La, watch the sunrise over Meili Snow Mountain, cruise Erhai Lake in a traditional boat, explore the Naxi pictographic script in Lijiang, and trek through the UNESCO-listed Stone Forest.
Top Experiences
Lijiang Old Town
A UNESCO-listed maze of cobblestone streets, wooden bridges, and gurgling canals backed by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain — the perfect base for Naxi culture and Himalayan vistas.
Shangri-La & Tibetan Yunnan
Visit Songzanlin Monastery — the Little Potala. Trek through Tibetan villages, turquoise highland lakes, and alpine meadows at 3,200m. The real-life place that inspired James Hilton Lost Horizon.
Lugu Lake
A pristine alpine lake straddling the Yunnan-Sichuan border, home to the Mosuo matriarchal society. Cycle around the lake, take a traditional dugout canoe, and stay in a lakeside Mosuo village.
Tiger Leaping Gorge
One of the deepest gorges in the world — the Jinsha River churns between Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain. A 2-day hike is the experience of a lifetime for trekkers.
Dali & Erhai Lake
A backpacker paradise with Bai minority culture. Bike around Erhai Lake, explore the Three Pagodas, and sip Yunnan coffee in a courtyard café beneath the Cangshan Mountains.
Yuanyang Rice Terraces
A thousand years of Hani minority farming sculpted into the mountainside — terraces that fill with water and reflect the sky like shattered mirrors. Sunrise here is a photographer dream.
Best Time to Visit
March-May and September-November. Spring for blooming rhododendrons, autumn for golden rice terraces and clear skies. Summer is the rainy season (lush green but wet). Winter is cold at altitude.
Travel Tips
- Tibetan areas (Shangri-La, Deqin) require altitude preparation — acclimatize in Lijiang first
- The Stone Forest is an easy day trip from Kunming
- Yunnan coffee is some of China best — visit a plantation in Pu’er
- Try the Crossing the Bridge Noodles (过桥米线), Yunnan signature dish
