Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Lusaka — Fly to South Luangwa
Welcome to Zambia! Arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka. Connect to a bush flight to Mfuwe, gateway to South Luangwa National Park. Transfer to your luxury tented camp on the Luangwa River. Afternoon sundowner overlooking hippo pods and elephant herds crossing the river. Overnight at a luxury bush camp.
Day 2: South Luangwa Walking Safari
Dawn walking safari — the experience that made Zambia famous. Led by an armed ranger and expert guide, walk through the riverine forest tracking wildlife on foot. Encounter elephants, Thornicroft’s giraffes (endemic to Luangwa), and Crawshay’s zebras at eye level. The walking safari transforms your perspective — every snapped twig and alarm call becomes part of the story. Afternoon siesta, then a game drive to spot leopards. Overnight at the camp.
Day 3: South Luangwa Full Day
Full day exploring South Luangwa — one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries. Morning game drive through the ebony groves, spotting lions, wild dogs (Luangwa has one of Africa’s largest populations), and over 400 bird species. Bush breakfast by the river. Afternoon visit to a local Kunda village, then a night drive — the best chance to see leopards hunting and nocturnal creatures like civets, genets, and porcupines. Overnight at the camp.
Day 4: Fly to Lower Zambezi
Morning game drive, then fly to the Lower Zambezi National Park — dramatically different from Luangwa. Your camp sits on the Zambezi River with Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools visible across the water. Afternoon canoe safari — paddle silently past elephants swimming between islands, buffalo herds on the banks, and crocodiles sunning on sandbars. Overnight at a riverside luxury tented camp.
Day 5: Lower Zambezi Game Drives & River Safari
Morning game drive through the floodplains and winterthorn forests of Lower Zambezi. Large lion prides patrol the riverfront, and this park has one of the highest leopard densities in Africa. Afternoon tiger fishing on the Zambezi — the legendary fighting fish can reach 15kg. Cast your line as elephants drink at the river’s edge. Overnight at the camp.
Day 6: Canoe Dawn & Bush Walk
Dawn canoe safari — the Zambezi at sunrise, mist rising off the water, hippos surfacing beside you, fish eagles calling overhead. This is widely considered one of Africa’s finest wildlife experiences. After breakfast, a final walking safari along the river — tracking buffalo, elephant, and hopefully the park’s wild dogs. Farewell dinner under the stars with Zambezi River views. Overnight at the camp.
Day 7: Depart from Lusaka
Morning canoe or drive safari. Bush flight back to Lusaka. Connect to your international flight home with memories of Africa’s most intimate wildlife encounters.
