Descend to the lake for kayaking and snorkeling, then head south for Big Five safaris in Liwonde and Majete.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Lilongwe. Transfer north (6 hrs) through scenic highlands to Nyika National Park. Overnight Chelinda Lodge.
Day 2: Full day exploring Nyika Plateau — game drives, mountain biking, trout fishing in the dams. Africa’s highest and largest montane grassland. Overnight Nyika.
Day 3: Morning hike to viewpoints over the plateau (2,600m). Afternoon transfer to Nkhata Bay on Lake Malawi’s northern shore. Overnight lakeside lodge.
Day 4: Lake Malawi day — snorkeling, kayaking, village visit. The northern lake is deeper, clearer, and less developed than the south. Overnight Nkhata Bay.
Day 5: Scenic drive south along the lake (6 hrs) to Cape Maclear. Afternoon beach time. Overnight Cape Maclear.
Day 6: Lake Malawi southern shore — snorkeling among cichlids, island kayak expedition, fishing village cultural visit. Overnight Cape Maclear.
Day 7: Transfer to Liwonde National Park (4 hrs). Afternoon game drive. Overnight Liwonde.
