Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Dili Tour
Arrive in Dili. Afternoon city tour covering the Resistance Museum, Santa Cruz Cemetery, vibrant local markets, Tacitolu wetlands, and Cristo Rei statue at sunset. Welcome dinner at a local restaurant specializing in Timorese cuisine.
Day 2: Dili to Hatubuilico — Into the Highlands
Transfer through the mountains via Dare, Aileu, and Maubisse. Stop for panoramic views of the northern coast with Atauro Island shimmering in the distance. Visit traditional thatched-roof mountain villages perched on ridge tops. Arrive at Hatubuilico by late afternoon. Overnight at Alecrin’s Guesthouse.
Day 3: Mt Ramelau Summit — Sunrise Above the Clouds
3:30 AM transfer to the mountain sanctuary. Begin the 2.5-hour trek to Mt Ramelau’s 2,963m summit. Arrive in time for the spectacular sunrise — a spiritual experience as this peak is also an important Christian pilgrimage site. Descend for breakfast, then return to Dili through Suco Liurai and Belunhato.
Day 4: Atauro Island — Southeast Asia’s Eco-Tourism Gem
Morning boat transfer (1 hour) to Atauro Island. Welcome at Barry’s Resort. Visit the local NGO Empreza Diak to see community livelihood programs including fish farming, vegetable gardens, and traditional crafts. Afternoon tuk-tuk tour of the island capital, learning about local history and culture.
Day 5: Atauro Island — Snorkeling & Beach Day
Explore Atauro’s east coast — arguably Southeast Asia’s most pristine reefs. Choose between a guided walking tour to Makili fishing village, beach relaxation, or world-class snorkeling directly off the beach. The coral gardens and fish diversity here are among the richest in the Coral Triangle. Evening traditional music performance.
Day 6: Return to Dili
Morning boat back to Dili. Afternoon visit to Tais Market for traditional handwoven textiles (each region has distinct patterns). Explore Tacitolu area. Farewell dinner.
Day 7: Departure
Transfer to Dili airport for departure.
