Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Luanda Arrival — Private Welcome

Arrive in Luanda. Your private English-speaking guide meets you at the airport. Transfer to a 5-star hotel on the Marginal. Afternoon gentle introduction to Angola — visit the Fortaleza de Sao Miguel with its fantastic bay views. Welcome dinner at one of Luanda’s finest restaurants.

Day 2: Luanda Heritage — Baixa Quarter & Colonial Legacy

Private guided tour of Luanda’s Baixa quarter — the historic lower town with Portuguese colonial architecture, palm-lined boulevards, and the Iron Palace. Visit the National Anthropology Museum and the lively Benfica Market where families can shop for traditional crafts. Afternoon at Mussulo Island beach for relaxation.

Day 3: Luanda to Kalandula Falls — The Thunder of Africa

Drive to Kalandula Falls in Malanje province. Stop at traditional villages along the way. Afternoon arrival at the falls — at 105 meters high and 400 meters wide, these are Africa’s second largest waterfalls by volume. The falls create a spectacular natural amphitheater with rainbows in the perpetual mist. Overnight at a lodge near the falls.

Day 4: Kalandula & Pedras Negras — Mysterious Black Rocks

Morning return to the falls for different light and possibly fewer visitors. Picnic breakfast with views of the cascade. Afternoon visit to Pedras Negras — the mysterious Black Rocks that rise like megalithic sculptures from the savannah. Local guides share legends about these sacred formations.

Day 5: Kissama National Park — Angola’s Wildlife Revival

Drive to Kissama National Park. Afternoon game drive — the park was restocked through “Operation Noah’s Ark,” the world’s largest animal translocation. Search for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and the rare giant sable antelope. Kids will love the wildlife viewing from open safari vehicles.

Day 6: Luanda to Lubango — Southern Highlands

Fly to Lubango. Afternoon visit to the Tundavala Fissures — a dramatic 1,000-meter cliff edge with breathtaking views. The escarpment is a natural wonder and accessible via a short walk suitable for families.

Day 7: Serra da Leba & Mwila People

Drive the spectacular Serra da Leba road — one of the world’s most photogenic mountain passes. Visit a Mwila village for a cultural encounter the whole family will remember. The women’s elaborate clay-coated hairstyles fascinate children and adults alike.

Day 8: Namibe Desert — Welwitschia & Ancient Landscapes

Journey to the Namibe Desert to see the ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis plants — living fossils that thrive in one of Earth’s harshest environments for over 1,500 years. Explore the colorful rock formations of the Red Canyon. This is geology and nature education at its most spectacular.

Day 9: Departure from Lubango

Private transfer to Lubango airport. Farewell!
