Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Tbilisi
Arrival at Tbilisi International Airport. Transfer to hotel. Evening exploration of Tbilisi’s Old Town — sulfur baths, Shardeni Street with its art galleries and cafes. Welcome dinner with traditional Georgian supra (feast) including a tamada (toastmaster). Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 2: Tbilisi City Tour & Mtskheta
Full-day Tbilisi: Metekhi Church overlooking the river, Narikala Fortress, the Bridge of Peace, and the Dry Bridge flea market. Afternoon in Mtskheta: Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Jvari Monastery (UNESCO). Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 3: Kazbegi via Georgian Military Highway
Epic drive north through the Caucasus. Stops at Ananuri Fortress and the Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument. 4×4 ascent to Gergeti Trinity Church at the foot of Mount Kazbek. Hike in the surrounding alpine meadows. Overnight in Stepantsminda.
Day 4: Sighnaghi & Kakheti Wine Country
Drive to Kakheti wine region. Explore Sighnaghi’s cobblestone streets and defensive walls. Visit traditional qvevri wineries in Kvareli and taste amber wines. Georgian cooking class. Overnight in Telavi.
Day 5: Telavi, Gremi & Tsinandali
Visit Telavi’s bustling farmers’ market. Explore the 16th-century Gremi citadel and Tsinandali Estate, home of 19th-century Georgian nobility. Afternoon at Alaverdi Monastery, an 11th-century cathedral still producing wine. Overnight in Telavi.
Day 6: Kutaisi — Kingdom of Colchis
Travel west to Kutaisi, Georgia’s second city and ancient capital of Colchis. Visit the UNESCO-listed Bagrati Cathedral and Gelati Monastery with its remarkable 12th-century mosaics. Explore the city’s vibrant central square. Overnight in Kutaisi.
Day 7: Svaneti — Mestia Tower Houses
Drive into Upper Svaneti (UNESCO), one of Europe’s highest inhabited regions. Arrive in Mestia, surrounded by 5,000m peaks. Visit the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography with its extraordinary collection of medieval icons and manuscripts. Walk among the iconic stone tower houses. Overnight in Mestia.
Day 8: Ushguli — Europe’s Highest Village
4×4 journey to Ushguli (2,200m), the highest permanently inhabited settlement in Europe. Tower houses beneath Mount Shkhara (5,193m, Georgia’s highest peak). Traditional Svan lunch with kubdari (meat pie) in a family home. Return to Mestia.
Day 9: Batumi — Black Sea Pearl
Drive to Batumi on the Black Sea coast. Explore the subtropical botanical garden, the modern Alphabet Tower, and the dancing fountains. Stroll the 7km seaside boulevard. Farewell dinner at a seaside restaurant with Adjarian khachapuri. Overnight in Batumi.
Day 10: Depart Batumi
Morning at leisure on the Black Sea pebble beach. Transfer to Batumi International Airport. Gaumarjos (cheers) to Georgia!
