Day 2: Coloane & Taipa — The Quiet Side of Macau
Morning: escape the casinos to Coloane, Macau’s southern island that still feels like a fishing village. Visit the A-Ma Cultural Village with its towering white jade goddess statue overlooking the South China Sea. Walk the Coloane Trail for coastal views. Lunch at Lord Stow’s original bakery for the definitive egg tart. Afternoon in Taipa Village: the Taipa Houses-Museum (five pastel-green colonial homes from 1921), the Carmo Church, and narrow lanes of traditional shops. Visit a traditional Chinese pharmacy and a Portuguese wine shop for a tasting. Evening: Macau Tower sunset with optional skywalk. Overnight in Macau.
Day 3: Macau’s Hidden Corners & Depart
Morning exploration of Macau’s less-visited treasures: the Lou Kau Mansion (1889), a wealthy Chinese merchant’s home blending Eastern and Western architecture; the Mandarin’s House, the family home of Zheng Guanying, a Qing Dynasty reformer; and the Protestant Cemetery with its poignant tomb of George Chinnery, the British painter who captured 19th-century Macau. Visit the Maritime Museum near the A-Ma Temple. Afternoon departure.
