Morning flight from Canaima to Maturín, then transfer to the edge of the Orinoco Delta. Board a motorized canoe for the journey into the labyrinth of waterways that form one of the world’s largest river deltas. Arrive at a Warao indigenous stilt village, where houses are built on wooden platforms above the water. Settle into your eco-lodge and enjoy a traditional Warao dinner of fresh river fish and cassava bread.
Day 5: Orinoco Delta — Warao Culture & Jungle Exploration
Full day immersed in Warao culture (“Warao” means “boat people” in their language). Morning canoe excursion through narrow mangrove channels to spot howler monkeys, toucans, macaws, and pink river dolphins. Learn traditional fishing techniques from Warao guides using bows, arrows, and hand-woven nets. Afternoon visit to a Warao community to learn about moriche palm weaving, traditional medicine, and their spiritual connection to the delta’s waterways. Evening canoe trip to spot caimans by flashlight.
Day 6: Orinoco Delta — Deep Jungle & Wildlife
Deeper exploration into the delta’s remote channels. Visit a heart of palm processing camp to see how the Warao sustainably harvest the moriche palm. Jungle walk to learn about medicinal plants identified by your Warao guide. Afternoon piranha fishing expedition in the delta’s blackwater creeks. Watch the spectacular sunset over the delta’s open waters, with flocks of scarlet ibis and roseate spoonbills returning to their roosts. Night walk to observe nocturnal wildlife.
Day 7: Orinoco Delta to Caracas
Morning canoe ride through misty delta channels for final wildlife viewing. Farewell to the Warao community with a traditional dance performance. Return to the mainland and transfer to Maturín for the flight to Caracas. Evening at leisure in Caracas. Optional farewell dinner at a renowned Venezuelan restaurant in the Altamira district.
