Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Caracas to Santa Elena de Uairén — Gateway to Roraima

Fly from Caracas to Puerto Ordaz, then continue by road through the Gran Sabana to Santa Elena de Uairén, a frontier town near the Brazilian border. The drive crosses vast savannas dotted with smaller tepuis, setting the stage for the main event. Evening briefing with your guide and porter team. Overnight in a local posada.

Day 2: Paraitepui to Tek River Camp — Trek Begins

After breakfast, transfer to Paraitepui, the indigenous community where the trek begins. The first day’s hike crosses rolling savanna and crosses several rivers, with Roraima’s massive cliff face growing larger on the horizon. The 5-6 hour walk introduces you to the unique flora of the Gran Sabana, including carnivorous plants and endemic orchids. Camp at Tek River, with views of Roraima and neighboring Kukenán Tepui.

Day 3: Tek River to Base Camp — The Ramp

The most challenging day. Ascend through cloud forest to the base of Roraima’s cliffs, then tackle “The Ramp” — a natural diagonal pathway leading to the summit plateau. The steep 3-4 hour climb is rewarded with ever-expanding views of the Gran Sabana below. Reach the summit at 2,810m and set up camp. First evening on the alien landscape of the tepui top — a world of black rock formations, crystal valleys, and endemic plants found nowhere else on Earth.

Day 4: Roraima Summit — The Lost World Exploration

Full day exploring Roraima’s 30+ square kilometer summit. Visit the “Jacuzzis” — natural crystalline pools formed in the rock. Cross the Valley of the Crystals, where quartz formations sparkle in the sun. See the Triple Border Point marking where Venezuela, Brazil, and Guyana meet. Explore the “Maverick” rock formation and the bizarre landscape that inspired Pixar’s “Up.” Search for the endemic black frog and carnivorous heliamphora plants that exist only on these tepuis. Sunset from the summit is unforgettable.

Day 5: Summit to Tek River — Descent

Dawn on the summit for sunrise photography. Begin the descent via The Ramp, carefully navigating the steep section. The return trek passes through changing ecosystems — from the alien summit to cloud forest to savanna. Camp at Tek River for a celebratory dinner with your trekking team.

Day 6: Tek River to Santa Elena — Return

Final morning’s walk back to Paraitepui. Transfer to Santa Elena de Uairén for a well-deserved hot shower and rest. Optional visit to the nearby Brazilian border town of Pacaraima. Evening transfer to Puerto Ordaz for overnight or flight connection to Caracas. Take home the achievement of conquering one of the world’s most unique treks.
