Shanghai Tower → Shanghai Museum → Yu Garden → The Bund sunset. Overnight in Shanghai.
Day 3: Suzhou — Venice of the East
30-min bullet train to Suzhou. Visit Humble Administrator’s Garden (UNESCO) — China’s most famous classical garden, a masterpiece of Ming dynasty landscaping. Tiger Hill with its leaning Cloud Rock Pagoda (over 1,000 years old). Grand Canal boat ride. Pingjiang Road — preserved ancient canal street. Overnight in Suzhou.
Day 4: Hangzhou — Paradise on Earth
Bullet train to Hangzhou (1.5 hours). Afternoon: West Lake (UNESCO) — boat cruise on “Heaven on Earth.” Visit Lingyin Temple, one of China’s largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples, with Feilai Feng grottoes (300+ Buddhist carvings from 10th-14th centuries). Evening Impression West Lake show (directed by Zhang Yimou). Overnight in Hangzhou.
Day 5: Tea Culture & Train to Huangshan
Morning visit Longjing Tea Plantation — pick and taste China’s most famous green tea at the source. Visit the China National Tea Museum. Afternoon bullet train to Huangshan city (3 hours). Overnight at the foot of Yellow Mountain.
Day 6: Yellow Mountain Summit
Cable car up Yellow Mountain (Huangshan, UNESCO) — China’s most celebrated mountain, inspiration for countless paintings and poems. Hike through the iconic scenery: Beginning-to-Believe Peak, Bright Summit, Flying-Over Rock. Watch the sea of clouds roll through granite peaks dotted with ancient pine trees. Sunset at Cloud-Dispelling Pavilion. Overnight at summit hotel (essential for sunrise!).
Day 7: Yellow Mountain Sunrise & Descent
Pre-dawn wake-up for the legendary Huangshan sunrise — watch the sun emerge over a sea of clouds from Refreshing Terrace or Lion Peak. Morning hike to West Sea Grand Canyon — the most dramatic trail on the mountain. Cable car descent. Afternoon visit Hongcun Ancient Village (UNESCO) — the inspiration for scenes in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Bullet train back to Shanghai. Overnight in Shanghai.
Day 8: Shanghai Free Day
Free day to explore Shanghai at your pace — French Concession, Propaganda Poster Art Centre, M50 art district, or shopping. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Shanghai.
Day 9: Depart Shanghai
