Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Pickup from Kigali. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Drive through Rwanda’s scenic terraced hills to Musanze. Afternoon visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village — experience traditional Rwandan dance, royal court rituals, and local brewing. Overnight near Volcanoes NP.
Day 2: Mount Bisoke Volcano Hike
Early morning start for the Mount Bisoke hike (3,711m) — one of the Virunga Volcano chain. 6-7 hour round trip through bamboo forest, giant lobelia, and Afro-alpine vegetation. Reach the stunning crater lake at the summit — a jewel nestled in volcanic peaks. Panoramic views across Rwanda, Uganda, and DR Congo. Return to lodge for well-deserved rest. Overnight near Volcanoes NP.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking
The big day! Early breakfast and transfer to park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing. Trek into Volcanoes National Park to find your assigned gorilla family. One hour of pure magic with mountain gorillas. Afternoon at leisure or optional visit to the Dian Fossey Tomb trail. Celebratory dinner. Overnight near Volcanoes NP.
Day 4: Golden Monkeys & Return to Kigali
Morning golden monkey tracking in the bamboo zone of Volcanoes NP — these playful, endangered primates are a joy to watch. After the trek, return to lodge for lunch. Afternoon drive back to Kigali. Safe travels!
