Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Chengdu
Welcome to Sichuan — the Land of Abundance! Airport pickup. Evening Jinli Ancient Street — lantern-lit lanes with street food, Sichuan opera, and tea houses. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 2: Giant Panda Base & Chengdu Culture
Morning highlight: Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding — arrive early for the 8 AM feeding when pandas are most active. See red pandas, baby pandas in the nursery, and adults in their bamboo forest enclosures. Afternoon: People’s Park — sip tea at the historic Heming Tea House while locals practice calligraphy on the ground with giant water brushes. Visit Wuhou Shrine (Three Kingdoms history). Evening Sichuan hotpot — the numbing-spicy mala experience! Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 3: Leshan Giant Buddha
Day trip to Leshan Giant Buddha (UNESCO, 71m) — the world’s largest stone Buddha carved into a cliff facing the confluence of three rivers. Boat cruise for the best full-body view. Climb the cliffside stairway from head to toe. Return to Chengdu. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 4: Fly to Jiuzhaigou
Morning flight to Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport. Transfer to Jiuzhaigou Valley (UNESCO) — a fairy-tale landscape of turquoise lakes, multi-tiered waterfalls, and snow-capped peaks. Afternoon stroll at the park entrance area to acclimatize (2,000-3,000m). Overnight near Jiuzhaigou.
Day 5: Jiuzhaigou Valley Full Day
Full day exploring Jiuzhaigou Valley — “Valley of Nine Villages.” Park shuttle bus hop between the most stunning spots: Five Flower Lake (crystal-clear turquoise with submerged ancient tree trunks), Pearl Shoal Waterfall (the widest waterfall in China), Nuorilang Waterfall, Mirror Lake, and Long Lake. Boardwalks and easy trails connect the highlights. Tibetan village lunch. Overnight near Jiuzhaigou.
Day 6: Fly back to Chengdu — Kuanzhai Alley
Morning flight back to Chengdu. Afternoon explore Kuanzhai Alley — three parallel Qing-dynasty lanes preserved as cultural streets. Last chance for Sichuan snacks: dan dan noodles, mapo tofu, and sweet rice balls. Farewell Sichuan opera with face-changing performance. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 7: Depart Chengdu
Morning visit to Wenshu Monastery with its vegetarian restaurant. Airport transfer. Safe travels!
