Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Zhangjiajie
Airport pickup. Evening free to explore Wulingyuan district. Overnight in Zhangjiajie.
Day 2: Tianmen Mountain — Heaven’s Gate
Ride the world’s longest cable car (7.5 km) from downtown to the summit of Tianmen Mountain (1,518m). Walk the glass skywalks — cliff-hanging walkways with 1,430m drops. Climb the 999 steps to Heaven’s Gate — the massive natural arch. Descend via the thrilling 99-bend road. Overnight in Zhangjiajie.
Day 3: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Enter the park that inspired Avatar’s Pandora. Ride the Bailong Elevator (world’s tallest outdoor lift, 326m) to Yuanjiajie Scenic Area — the Southern Sky Pillar (renamed “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain”), First Bridge under Heaven, and the stunning pillar forest. Afternoon hike Golden Whip Stream (7.5 km) — a gentle trail along crystal-clear waters through towering quartz-sandstone pillars. Overnight in Zhangjiajie.
Day 4: Grand Canyon & Glass Bridge
Morning at Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Walk the world’s longest and highest glass-bottom bridge (430m long, 300m above the canyon). After the bridge: canyon hike past waterfalls and streams. Afternoon boat ride on tranquil Baofeng Lake surrounded by stone peaks. Overnight in Zhangjiajie.
Day 5: Zhangjiajie to Fenghuang
Drive 3.5 hours to Fenghuang Ancient Town (Phoenix Town) — one of China’s most beautiful ancient towns. Stilted wooden houses (diaojiaolou) along the Tuojiang River, stone bridges, and cobbled lanes. Afternoon explore the town. Evening: the town transforms — red lanterns reflect in the river, creating one of China’s most magical night scenes. Overnight in Fenghuang.
Day 6: Fenghuang Morning — Return
Early morning when the river mists rise — the most photogenic time in Fenghuang. Walk along the ancient city walls, visit the Former Residence of Shen Congwen (China’s most beloved modern writer). Drive back to Zhangjiajie. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Zhangjiajie.
Day 7: Depart Zhangjiajie
Airport transfer. Safe travels!
