Day 1: Arrive Tunis
Welcome to Tunisia! Airport transfer to your hotel. Afternoon orientation walk through Tunis Medina. Welcome dinner with traditional Tunisian cuisine. Overnight in Tunis.
Day 2: Carthage & Testour
Morning at Carthage: the Punic ruins, Antonine Baths, and Byrsa Hill. Drive west to Testour, a unique Andalusian town founded by Spanish Muslims. Visit the Great Mosque with its reversed clock — the only one in the world. Explore the town’s distinctive Spanish-influenced architecture. Overnight near Dougga.
Day 3: Dougga & The Oases
Explore Dougga in morning light (UNESCO). Continue south to the mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides — stunning oasis towns with waterfalls, canyons, and palm groves at the edge of the Sahara. Walk through the dramatic Mides Canyon. Overnight in a desert camp.
Day 4: Chott el Djerid & Tozeur
Cross the vast Chott el Djerid — a shimmering salt lake where mirages dance on the horizon. Used as a filming location for Star Wars. Explore Tozeur’s lush oasis with over 400,000 date palms. Visit the Dar Cherait Museum for a taste of traditional Saharan life. Sunset camel ride. Overnight in a Sahara desert camp.
Day 5: Matmata — Troglodyte Homes
Drive to Matmata, the extraordinary underground Berber village where families have lived in cave homes carved into the earth for centuries. Visit a troglodyte home and meet a local family. See the cave dwelling that served as Luke Skywalker’s home in Star Wars. Continue to Chenini, a spectacular hilltop ksar (fortified granary). Overnight in a cave hotel.
Day 6: Tataouine & Ksar Ouled Soltane
Explore the Tataouine region, inspiration for Star Wars’ planet Tatooine. Visit Ksar Ouled Soltane, a magnificent 15th-century four-story grain storage fortress. Walk through Ksar Hadada, another Star Wars filming location. Meet Berber artisans in the weekly market. Overnight on Djerba Island.
Day 7: Djerba Island — Mediterranean Paradise
Full day on Djerba, the legendary island of lotus-eaters from Homer’s Odyssey. Visit the El Ghriba Synagogue (one of Africa’s oldest), the island’s pottery village of Guellala, and the colorful Houmt Souk market. Afternoon at leisure on Djerba’s pristine Mediterranean beaches. Farewell seafood dinner. Overnight on Djerba.
Day 8: Depart Djerba or Tunis
Transfer to Djerba-Zarzis Airport or fly back to Tunis for your international connection.
