Day 1: Arrive Dakar

Day 2: Dakar — Culture & Contemporary Africa
Morning at the Museum of Black Civilizations, Africa’s newest and most ambitious museum. Visit the African Renaissance Monument, a 49-meter bronze statue overlooking the Atlantic. Afternoon at the IFAN Museum of African Arts, one of the oldest art museums in West Africa. Explore the colorful markets of Sandaga and Kermel. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 3: Goree Island — A UNESCO World Heritage Site
Ferry to Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site and powerful memorial to the transatlantic slave trade. Visit the House of Slaves and the “Door of No Return.” Walk the peaceful car-free streets lined with colonial buildings in pastel colors. The island is now a symbol of reconciliation and a vibrant artist colony. Afternoon return to Dakar. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 4: Pink Lake (Lac Rose) & Lompoul Desert
Drive to Lac Rose (Lake Retba), named for its striking pink color caused by algae in its highly saline waters. Watch salt harvesters at work — a timeless tradition. Continue north to the Lompoul Desert for a magical night in a desert camp. Camel ride at sunset across the orange sand dunes. Traditional dinner around a campfire under the stars. Overnight in Lompoul desert camp.
Day 5: Saint-Louis — Colonial UNESCO Treasure
Drive to Saint-Louis, Senegal’s former capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This island city connected by the Faidherbe Bridge is a living museum of French colonial architecture. Walking tour through the historic quarters. Visit the photography museum and artist studios. Afternoon boat trip through the Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary. Overnight in Saint-Louis.
Day 6: Touba — Spiritual Heart of Senegal
Visit Touba, the holy city of the Mouride brotherhood and home to one of Africa’s largest mosques — the Great Mosque of Touba, with its towering minarets. Learn about Senegal’s unique Sufi Islamic traditions and the teachings of Sheikh Amadou Bamba. Respectful dress required. Afternoon return to Dakar. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 7: Saloum Delta & Mangrove Exploration
Journey to the Sine-Saloum Delta, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Boat excursion through mangrove channels teeming with birdlife — pelicans, flamingos, and fish eagles. Visit traditional Serer villages built on shell mounds (ancient middens). Lunch of fresh oysters and grilled fish on a remote island. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 8: Depart Dakar
Morning at the Village des Arts, Dakar’s artist community. Transfer to Blaise Diagne International Airport.
