Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Tunis

Welcome to Tunisia, where Africa meets the Mediterranean! Airport transfer to your hotel. Afternoon walking tour of Tunis Medina (UNESCO) — a labyrinth of souks, mosques, and historic palaces. Visit the Zitouna Mosque, the heart of the old city. Welcome dinner with couscous and Tunisian mint tea. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 2: Carthage & Sidi Bou Said

Morning excursion to the legendary ruins of Carthage (UNESCO) — once Rome’s greatest rival. Visit the Antonine Baths (the largest Roman baths outside Rome), the Punic ports, and the Tophet sanctuary. Afternoon in Sidi Bou Said, the impossibly picturesque blue-and-white hilltop village overlooking the Mediterranean. Walk cobblestone lanes, sip tea at Café des Nattes, and photograph the iconic blue doors. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 3: Dougga — Rome’s Best-Preserved African City

Day trip to Dougga (UNESCO), arguably the best-preserved Roman town in North Africa. Explore the 3,500-seat theater, the Capitol temple, and the Licinian Baths with stunning views over the rolling countryside. Visit the Mausoleum of Ateban, a unique Numidian monument. Continue to Kairouan. Overnight in Kairouan.

Day 4: Kairouan — Islam’s Fourth Holiest City

Full day in Kairouan (UNESCO). Visit the Great Mosque — one of Islam’s most important religious buildings with a forest of ancient columns. Explore the Aghlabid Basins, 9th-century water reservoirs. Walk through the Medina’s carpet souks — Kairouan is Tunisia’s carpet capital. Visit the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi (Barber’s Mosque) with its stunning ceramic tiles. Overnight in Kairouan.

Day 5: El Jem Colosseum & Monastir

Journey to El Jem — visit the magnificent 3rd-century Roman amphitheater (UNESCO), the third-largest in the Roman world (capacity 35,000). Almost perfectly preserved, it rivals Rome’s Colosseum. Continue to Monastir: the Ribat fortress (film location for Monty Python’s Life of Brian) and the Bourguiba Mausoleum. Overnight in Tunis.
