Day 1: Arrive Pristina — Europe’s Youngest Capital

Arrive at Pristina International Airport. Kosovo declared independence in 2008 and has been building its identity with remarkable energy. Transfer to your hotel. Afternoon orientation walk: see the NEWBORN monument (repainted annually on Independence Day with a new message), the striking National Library (a brutalist masterpiece — or eyesore — wrapped in 99 white domes), and the Cathedral of Saint Mother Teresa (the world’s most famous Albanian, born to Kosovar parents in Skopje). Walk Mother Teresa Boulevard, lined with cafes full of young people — Kosovo has Europe’s youngest population. Welcome dinner of tavë kosi (baked lamb with yogurt — Kosovo’s national dish). Overnight in Pristina.

Day 2: Prizren — Kosovo’s Cultural Heart

Full-day excursion to Prizren (1.5 hours from Pristina). Prizren is Kosovo’s most beautiful city, nestled at the foot of the Sharr Mountains on the banks of the Bistrica River. Morning: climb to the Kalaja Fortress (11th century) for panoramic views over red-tiled roofs, the river, and the mountains. Visit the Sinan Pasha Mosque (1615), one of the Balkans’ finest Ottoman mosques with its exquisite painted interior. Walk across the 15th-century Stone Bridge. Afternoon: explore the Old Town’s artisan quarter — watch filigree silversmiths at work using techniques passed down through generations. Visit the League of Prizren Museum, where the Albanian national movement was born in 1878. Taste Prizren’s famous qebapa (grilled meat rolls) at a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Pristina.

Day 3: Peja & Rugova Canyon — Kosovo’s Wild Side

Full day in western Kosovo. Drive to Peja (Peć), the gateway to the Accursed Mountains. Visit the Patriarchate of Peć (UNESCO), a 13th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery with extraordinary frescoes — one of the most important medieval sites in the Balkans. Afternoon: drive into Rugova Canyon, one of Europe’s deepest and most dramatic gorges (up to 1,000m deep and 25km long). Hike a section of the Via Dinarica trail along the canyon rim. Visit a traditional kulla (stone tower house), the distinctive fortified architecture of the Dukagjini region. Overnight in Pristina.

Day 4: Kosovo’s Sacred Sites — Visoki Dečani & Wine Country

Full day visiting Kosovo’s UNESCO-listed medieval monasteries and its emerging wine region. Morning: drive to Visoki Dečani Monastery (UNESCO, 1335) — one of the finest examples of Serbian medieval architecture, its exterior a stunning combination of Romanesque and Gothic styles, its interior covered in over 1,000 frescoes. Note: KFOR troops guard the monastery (bring your passport). Afternoon: visit the Rahovec wine region — Kosovo has been making wine for 2,000+ years, and its vineyards are being rediscovered. Visit the Stone Castle winery for a tour and tasting. Farewell dinner at a vineyard restaurant. Overnight in Pristina.

Day 5: Pristina & Depart

Morning visit to the Kosovo Museum and the Ethnological Museum (Emin Gjiku Complex — a beautifully preserved 18th-century Ottoman house). Walk through the bustling Green Market for local produce and crafts. Transfer to airport.
