Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Khartoum to Port Sudan
Fly to Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast. Transfer to your dive resort. Sudan’s Red Sea coast offers some of the world’s most pristine, untouched coral reefs — the same Red Sea marine ecosystem as Egypt but with almost zero dive tourism. Overnight at dive resort near Port Sudan.
Day 2: Sha’ab Rumi — Jacques Cousteau’s Underwater Laboratory
Full-day boat dive trip to Sha’ab Rumi. This is where Jacques Cousteau placed his Conshelf II underwater habitat in 1963 — the remains still rest on the seabed at 10m. The reef is extraordinary: hammerhead sharks, grey reef sharks, manta rays, and pristine coral gardens. Overnight at dive resort.
Day 3: Sanganeb Atoll — Lighthouse Reef
Dive Sanganeb Atoll (UNESCO tentative), a 12km-long reef crowned by a British-built lighthouse (1906). The walls drop thousands of meters into the deep. Shark encounters are almost guaranteed. Overnight at dive resort.
Day 4: Umbria Wreck — The World’s Best Wreck Dive
Dive the SS Umbria, an Italian cargo ship scuttled in 1940 to avoid capture by the British. At 155m long lying on its side at 35m, fully intact with 360,000 unexploded bombs still aboard, it’s often called the world’s best wreck dive. Overnight at dive resort.
Day 5: Nubian Desert & Fly to Khartoum
Morning desert drive to the Nubian Desert. Visit a Beja nomad camp — the Beja are the traditional inhabitants of Sudan’s Red Sea hills. Afternoon flight to Khartoum. Overnight in Khartoum.
Day 6: Khartoum & Meroe Pyramids
Day trip to the Meroe pyramids with sunset viewing. Overnight in Khartoum.
Day 7: Depart Khartoum
Transfer to airport.
