Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Tehran
Arrive and transfer to hotel. Evening visit to the Milad Tower for sunset views over Tehran with the Alborz Mountains as backdrop. Overnight in Tehran.
Day 2: Dasht-e Kavir — Into the Great Salt Desert
Morning drive to the Dasht-e Kavir (Great Salt Desert), one of Earth’s most spectacular desert landscapes. Stop at the Maranjab Caravanserai (17th century), a restored Silk Road inn where camel caravans once rested. Afternoon: 4×4 desert safari across the salt flats, through the mesmerizing sand dunes, and to the salt lake where thick salt crystals crack under your feet. Sunset over the dunes — the silence is absolute. Overnight in desert eco-camp.
Day 3: Mesr Desert & Camel Trek
Continue deeper into the desert to the village of Mesr, an oasis surrounded by some of Iran’s highest sand dunes. Morning camel trek through the dunes with a local camel herder. Visit the traditional irrigation system (qanat) that has kept this desert village alive for centuries. Afternoon: dune hiking and sandboarding. Evening: stargazing in one of the darkest skies on Earth — the Milky Way stretches horizon to horizon. Overnight in Mesr guesthouse.
Day 4: Isfahan Arrival
Drive from the desert to Isfahan. Afternoon introduction to Naqsh-e Jahan Square and the Qeisarieh Bazaar. Evening walk on the historic bridges. Overnight in Isfahan.
Day 5: Isfahan Highlights
Full day exploring Isfahan: Imam Mosque, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, Ali Qapu Palace, Armenian Quarter with Vank Cathedral, and the bazaar. Overnight in Isfahan.
Day 6: Qashqai Nomads — Zagros Mountains
Drive into the Zagros Mountains to spend the day with Qashqai nomads. The Qashqai are one of Iran’s largest nomadic tribes, migrating twice yearly between summer and winter pastures with their flocks of sheep and goats. Watch women weave the famous Qashqai carpets — each pattern tells a story. Share tea in a black goat-hair tent. Learn about nomadic life in the 21st century. Taste fresh-made yogurt, bread baked on hot stones, and mountain herbs. Overnight in a Qashqai tent camp.
Day 7: Persepolis & Shiraz
Morning farewell to the nomads. Drive to Persepolis for a guided tour of the Achaemenid capital. Continue to Shiraz. Overnight in Shiraz.
Day 8: Shiraz & Depart
Morning visit to the Pink Mosque at dawn. Transfer to Shiraz Airport.
