Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive High Tatras
Transfer from Poprad to your mountain hotel. Afternoon: gentle walk around Strbske Pleso glacial lake (flat 4km loop) with mountain views. Welcome dinner at a traditional koliba.
Day 2: Popradske Pleso — First Alpine Lake
Easy hike to Popradske Pleso (1,494m, 1.5 hours, 150m gain). Lunch at the historic mountain hotel. Afternoon: return walk, optional visit to the Tatra Museum and funicular to Hrebienok (1,285m) for valley views.
Day 3: Zelene Pleso — The Emerald Lake
Gentle hike through pine forest to Zelene Pleso (Green Lake, 1,546m, 2.5 hours, 300m gain). The lake’s emerald color comes from glacial minerals. Picnic lunch by the shore, surrounded by Kezmarsky stit (2,558m) towering above. Visit the Biela Voda waterfall. Return to hotel.
Day 4: First Hut Night — Zamkovskeho Chata
Easy hike to Zamkovskeho Chata (1,475m, 2 hours, 200m gain) — a historic 1893 mountain hut in the Mala Studena Valley. Afternoon: optional walk to the waterfall. Your first night in a mountain hut: communal dining, stories with fellow hikers, and star-gazing in the clear alpine air.
Day 5: Teryho Chata — Slovakia’s Highest Hut
The biggest day of the trek: hike to Teryho Chata (2,015m, 4-5 hours, 540m gain). The trail climbs through dwarf pine into alpine terrain, with increasingly dramatic views. This is your “achievement day” — reaching the highest hut in Slovakia. Sunset from the terrace is a lifetime memory. Overnight at Teryho Chata.
Day 6: Descent & Slovak Paradise
Easy morning descent (2.5 hours downhill). Afternoon: transfer to Slovak Paradise National Park. Gentle walk along the Hornad River gorge with its dramatic canyon walls. Overnight in Slovak Paradise.
Day 7: Spis Castle & Levoca
Cultural day: visit Spis Castle (UNESCO, 12th century, 41,000 sq m) — one of Europe’s largest castle ruins. Continue to Levoca with its 18m Gothic wooden altar (tallest in the world). Afternoon: relax at a local thermal spa. Farewell dinner with Slovak folk music.
