Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Ouagadougou — Land of Upright People
Arrive and explore Ouagadougou. Moro-Naba Palace, National Museum, artisan village. Evening cinema screening (FESPACO heritage). Overnight in Ouagadougou.
Day 3: Tiebele — Painted Houses
Day trip to the extraordinary Gourounsi painted villages. Afternoon workshop: learn traditional house painting techniques from Kassena women. Return to Ouagadougou.
Day 4-5: Bobo-Dioulasso & Banfora
Travel to Bobo-Dioulasso. Grande Mosquée, Kibidwe old town, Sacred Fish Pond. Day trip to Banfora: Karfiguéla waterfalls, Dômes de Fabedougou, Lake Tengrela hippos. Overnight in Bobo.
Day 6: Sindou Peaks — Cathedral of Stone
Full day exploring the Pics de Sindou — towering sandstone needles rising from the plain. Sunset photography. Overnight near Sindou.
Day 7-8: Gorom-Gorom — Gateway to the Sahel
Journey north to Gorom-Gorom, the quintessential Sahelian town on the edge of the desert. Visit the Thursday market — one of West Africa’s most colorful, where Tuareg traders in indigo turbans, Fulani herders, and Songhai farmers converge in a spectacle of color, sound, and trade. Explore the surrounding desert landscapes and traditional villages. Overnight in Gorom-Gorom.
Day 9: Return to Ouagadougou
Long drive south through the changing Sahel-Savanna landscape. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Ouagadougou.
Day 10: Depart Burkina Faso
Morning shopping. Transfer to airport.
