Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Minsk — Stalinist Splendor

Arrive at Minsk National Airport. Transfer through Minsk’s grand Stalinist boulevards — the city was 80% destroyed in WWII and rebuilt as a monumental socialist showcase. Afternoon orientation walk along Independence Avenue: the KGB Headquarters, the massive Government House, and the impressive Victory Square with its eternal flame. Evening: Belarusian dinner of draniki (potato pancakes with sour cream) and machanka (pork stew). Overnight in Minsk.

Day 2: Minsk — Soviet History & Modern Life

Full day in Minsk. Morning: Great Patriotic War Museum — Belarus lost 25% of its population in WWII, and this museum is one of the most powerful war memorials in Europe. Afternoon: visit the National Library of Belarus, a futuristic rhombicuboctahedron (“diamond”) structure with an observation deck offering panoramic city views. Visit the Island of Tears, a moving memorial to Soviet soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Evening: attend a performance at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus — one of the world’s best ballet companies. Overnight in Minsk.

Day 3: Mir Castle — UNESCO Gothic-Renaissance Masterpiece

Day trip to Mir Castle (1.5 hours). This UNESCO World Heritage castle is a stunning fusion of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture built by the powerful Radziwill family. Walk through the restored halls, climb the towers, and explore the dungeon. The castle’s red brick towers rising from a placid lake are one of Eastern Europe’s most photogenic sights. Afternoon: visit the nearby town of Mir with its charming old market square. Return to Minsk. Overnight in Minsk.

Day 4: Nesvizh Palace — The Radziwill Versailles

Day trip to Nesvizh Palace (2 hours). This magnificent Renaissance-Baroque palace, also UNESCO-listed, was the seat of the Radziwill family — one of the most powerful dynasties in European history. The restored palace rivals Versailles in its grandeur with its Great Hall, Golden Hall, and extensive art collection. Walk through the formal gardens and visit the Corpus Christi Church, the Radziwill family crypt — the third-largest family mausoleum in Europe. Return to Minsk. Overnight in Minsk.

Day 5: Brest — Hero Fortress

Day trip to Brest (3.5 hours by train or car), near the Polish border. Visit the Brest Hero Fortress — one of the most important WWII memorials in the former Soviet Union. The fortress held out against the Nazi invasion for a week in June 1941, becoming a symbol of Soviet resistance. Walk through the massive memorial complex with its 100-meter titanium obelisk and haunting sculptures. Afternoon: visit the Brest Railway Museum and walk along Sovetskaya Street, a charming pedestrian boulevard. Return to Minsk. Overnight in Minsk.

Day 6: Depart Minsk

Morning visit to the Komarovsky Market — Minsk’s largest, with fresh produce, Belarusian crafts, and a vibrant atmosphere. Transfer to airport.
