Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Barcelona, Transfer to Andorra
Meet your group in Barcelona and drive 3 hours north into the Pyrenees. As you climb, the Mediterranean gives way to granite peaks, alpine meadows, and the tiny nation of Andorra — 468 km² wedged between France and Spain, ruled jointly by the French President and the Bishop of Urgell since 1278. Arrive in Soldeu (1,710m), your mountain base for the week. Evening welcome dinner with the group at Hotel Roc de St Miquel. Overnight in Soldeu.
Day 2: Incles Valley Hike to Cabana Sorda Lake
Morning transfer to the Incles Valley trailhead. The hike climbs through pine forests into a classic glacial valley, opening onto Cabana Sorda Lake at 2,350m — a turquoise alpine pool reflecting the surrounding granite peaks. The round trip takes 5-6 hours with 640m elevation gain. Picnic lunch at the lake. Return to Soldeu for a well-earned rest. Overnight in Soldeu.
Day 3: Port d’Envalira Cycling
Today’s ride is legendary: climbing to the Port d’Envalira at 2,408m, the highest paved road in the Pyrenees and a regular feature in the Tour de France. The climb is challenging but the descent into Pas de la Casa is pure reward. Continue to Lake Abelletes on the French border — one side Andorran, one side French, perfectly split by the watershed. Cycling distance: 35km with 700m total ascent. E-bikes available. Overnight in Soldeu.
Day 4: Engolasters Lake & Canillo Tibetan Bridge
Morning visit to Engolasters Lake, a serene glacial lake perfect for a morning walk. Continue to Canillo to cross the Tibetan Bridge — at 603m, it’s Europe’s longest suspension footbridge, swaying high above the Valira d’Orient gorge. The views of the valley from mid-span are spectacular. Afternoon: visit Andorra la Vella, Europe’s highest capital (1,023m). Walk the historic Barri Antic and visit the Casa de la Vall, the 1580 parliament building that was also a school and a courthouse. Overnight in Andorra la Vella.
Day 5: Sort Whitewater Rafting
Cross into Spanish Catalonia to Sort, the whitewater capital of the Pyrenees. The Noguera Pallaresa River offers world-class rafting through the Collegats Gorge — Class III-IV rapids through towering limestone walls. Full safety briefing and equipment provided; no experience necessary. After the adrenaline, lunch at a riverside restaurant. Visit the Caves Manacor market for local wine and cheese. Return to Andorra la Vella.
Day 6: Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley (UNESCO)
Hike into the UNESCO-listed Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a 4,247-hectare glacial valley recognized for its living cultural landscape — shepherds still practice traditional transhumance here, moving flocks between summer and winter pastures as they have for 700 years. The valley has no roads; access is only on foot. The moderate 12km loop passes old shepherds’ huts (bordes) built of dry stone, stone fences, and iron-working sites from the 18th century. Overnight in Andorra la Vella.
Day 7: Ordino & Sorteny Nature Park
Visit Sorteny Nature Park, a botanical paradise with over 700 species of flowering plants — more than anywhere else in the Pyrenees. The park’s Estanyó Lake at 2,350m is surrounded by rare alpine flora. Afternoon: explore the medieval village of Ordino, its stone houses and Romanesque church perfectly preserved. Farewell dinner with local Andorran specialties: trinxat (cabbage and potato cake), escudella (hearty mountain stew), and coca masegada (honey-anise flatbread). Overnight in Andorra la Vella.
Day 8: Andorra to Barcelona
Morning at leisure in Andorra la Vella — the capital is a duty-free zone, making it a shopper’s paradise for electronics, cosmetics, and outdoor gear. Drive back to Barcelona.
