5-Day Guernsey Island Escape: St. Peter Port, Herm & Sark Treasures

Day 1: Arrive Guernsey — St. Peter Port Magic

Arrive at Guernsey Airport or by ferry. Transfer to your hotel in St. Peter Port, one of Europe’s most enchanting harbor towns with pastel houses climbing the steep hillside. Afternoon orientation walk: the cobbled High Street, the 19th-century Candie Gardens, and Castle Cornet—an 800-year-old fortress on its own tidal island with five museums and the daily noon-day gun. Welcome dinner of Guernsey seafood. Overnight St. Peter Port (4 nights).

Day 2: Guernsey Coast & Culture

Morning guided tour of Guernsey’s highlights. Visit Hauteville House, Victor Hugo’s extraordinary home during his 15-year exile—every room decorated by Hugo himself in a riot of tapestries, carved wood, and literary symbolism. Then to the Little Chapel, one of the world’s smallest churches, entirely decorated in broken china and seashells—a labor of love by a single monk. Afternoon drive along the south coast: Moulin Huet Bay where Renoir painted, the dramatic Icart Point cliffs, and Fort Grey’s shipwreck museum. Overnight St. Peter Port.

Day 3: Herm Island — Paradise Day

Morning ferry to Herm Island (20 minutes)—a car-free, crowd-free paradise just 1.5 miles long. Walk the coastal path around the entire island (about 2 hours), passing Shell Beach with its millions of tiny shells, Belvoir Bay with crystalline water, and the wild northern heath. Lunch at the Mermaid Tavern, the island’s only pub. Afternoon swimming, sunbathing, or simply being still in one of Europe’s most peaceful places. Return ferry to Guernsey. Overnight St. Peter Port.

Day 4: Sark — Europe’s Dark Sky Island

Ferry to Sark, the extraordinary island where cars are banned and horse-drawn carriages are the main transport. Your guided carriage tour takes you through high-banked lanes to La Coupée, the razor-thin granite isthmus connecting Great and Little Sark with 80-meter drops on both sides. Walk the south coast wildflower meadows, visit the Seigneurie Gardens, and learn about Sark’s unique feudal history—the last territory in Europe to abolish feudalism (in 2008!). Sark also boasts Dark Sky Island status with some of Europe’s darkest nights. Farewell dinner in St. Peter Port. Overnight St. Peter Port.

Day 5: Departure
