8-Day Bonaire Above & Below: Diving, Windsurfing & Lac Bay Mangroves

Day 1: Arrive Bonaire — Kralendijk & Orientation

Arrive at Flamingo International Airport. Transfer to your accommodation and pick up your 4×4 pickup truck—the essential Bonaire transport. Afternoon orientation: visit the dive shop for your unlimited shore diving package (free nitrox included), then swing by Lac Bay to meet the windsurfing center and schedule your lessons. Sunset at Kralendijk’s waterfront, watching the fishing boats return. Welcome dinner at a harborside restaurant. Overnight Kralendijk (7 nights).

Day 2: Diving Day — Salt Pier, Hilma Hooker & The South

Morning shore dive at the legendary Salt Pier—swim beneath the massive concrete pillars through schools of tarpon and barracuda. Continue to the Hilma Hooker wreck, the 240-foot freighter now a magnificent artificial reef. Afternoon at Red Slave, where the reef grows around iron cannons, a haunting reminder of the salt industry’s origins. Third dive at your choice: perhaps the double reef at Angel City or the colorful shallows of The Lake. Night dive on the house reef. Overnight Kralendijk.

Day 3: Windsurfing at Lac Bay — The Caribbean’s Best Learning Spot

Full day at Lac Bay, a vast, shallow lagoon protected by a barrier reef, creating waist-deep water with steady onshore winds—absolutely perfect for learning. Morning lesson: beginners learn the basics (balance, sail control, first runs), while intermediates practice harness technique and beach starts. Lunch at the Hang Out Beach Bar on the sand. Afternoon session when the wind builds. Return to Kralendijk for sunset. Overnight Kralendijk.

Day 4: North Sites & Washington Slagbaai

Morning shore dives at the north’s legendary sites: Karpata with its massive barrel sponges and steep wall, then La Dania’s Leap for a giant-stride cliff entry. Midday drive through Washington Slagbaai National Park: the 34km route through cactus forests, past flamingo-filled salt pans, and along dramatic blowhole coastline. Climb Mount Brandaris (241m) for panoramic island views. Afternoon dive at Wayaka II or continue exploring the park. Overnight Kralendijk.

Day 5: Mangrove Kayak & More Windsurfing

Morning kayak tour through Lac Bay’s mangrove forests—paddle through narrow channels beneath the canopy, learning about this critical nursery ecosystem that shelters juvenile fish, seahorses, and sea turtles. Midday windsurfing at Lac Bay: continuing lessons or independent sailing, practicing water starts and first jibes. Afternoon at Sorobon Beach, the island’s most laid-back stretch of sand. Overnight Kralendijk.

Day 6: Klein Bonaire & Night Life

Morning double-tank boat dive to Klein Bonaire: drift along pristine coral gardens at Jerry’s Reef, then explore the dramatic wall at Carl’s Hill. Surface interval on No Name Beach’s powdery white sand. Afternoon at leisure: perhaps visit the Donkey Sanctuary or the Cadushy Distillery (made from cactus!). Evening shore dive at Bari Reef (300+ fish species), followed by dinner in Kralendijk. Overnight Kralendijk.

Day 7: Final Dives & Sunset Celebration

Morning shore dive at your absolute favorite site—one more swim with the turtles, one more photograph of the coral formations. Afternoon at Sorobon Beach for a final windsurfing session in the reliable afternoon breeze. As the sun sets, farewell celebration: cold Polar beers on the waterfront, swapping stories of the week’s best moments. Farewell dinner at a top Kralendijk restaurant. Overnight Kralendijk.

Day 8: Departure

No-dive morning (surface interval). Return your truck. Transfer to the airport for departure.
