Day 1: Arrive Vágar — Sørvágsvatn & Welcome to Tórshavn
Arrive at Vágar Airport. Our Intrepid leader greets you for the opening adventure: hike to the Trælanípa cliff above Lake Sørvágsvatn, one of the planet’s greatest optical illusions—the lake appears to float 100 meters above the ocean. Continue to the 30-meter Bøsdalafossur waterfall where it plunges into the Atlantic. Transfer to Tórshavn. Welcome meeting and dinner at a waterside restaurant featuring Faroese lamb and fresh-caught fish. Overnight Tórshavn.
Day 2: Eysturoy — Risin, Kellingin & the Giant’s Trail
Drive to Eysturoy Island. Morning hike along the clifftop trail from Eiði village, with views of the legendary 71-meter sea stacks Risin and Kellingin (the Giant and the Witch). According to Faroese saga, these petrified giants were trying to drag the islands to Iceland. Continue to Gjógv, the impossibly picturesque village centered on its 200-meter sea gorge. Afternoon walk along the gorge rim and through the village’s grass-roofed lanes. Visit the Gjáargarður Guesthouse for traditional fish soup. Overnight Tórshavn.
Day 3: Vágar West — Waterfalls, Cliffs & Hidden Valleys
Return to Vágar for the island’s western treasures. Morning drive to Gásadalur village, cut off from the world until 2004, to photograph the famous Múlafossur waterfall. Walk the old postman’s path along the cliffs with views to the Drangarnir sea arch. Afternoon exploring the villages of Bøur and Sandavágur, including the 16th-century Fámjin stone at Sandavágur Church. Optional extension: hike into the remote valley of Vatnsdalur, an abandoned settlement accessible only by foot. Overnight Tórshavn.
Day 4: Mykines — The Puffin Island
Ferry to Mykines, the westernmost Faroe island and one of the North Atlantic’s premier seabird sanctuaries. Walk across the footbridge to Mykineshólmur islet through a colony of thousands of Atlantic puffins—so close you could almost touch them. Continue to the lighthouse at the island’s tip past clouds of gannets, guillemots, and fulmars. The puffins are completely unfazed by human presence, offering extraordinary photographic opportunities. Picnic lunch on the clifftop. Return by ferry. Farewell dinner in Tórshavn featuring Faroese delicacies. Overnight Tórshavn.
Day 5: Departure
Morning exploration of Tórshavn’s shops for Faroese knitwear. Transfer to Vágar Airport for departure.
