Day 2: Embark Ocean Victory / Ocean Albatros
Afternoon embarkation. Settle into your private-balcony cabin. Sail the Beagle Channel. Welcome dinner. Overnight at sea.
Days 3-4: Drake Passage — Comfort Crossing
Two days crossing the Drake with X-BOW stability. Lecture program, citizen science, wildlife spotting. Cross the Antarctic Convergence. First icebergs. Overnight at sea.
Days 5-10: Antarctic Peninsula — Six Days of Wonder
Six full days—two more than standard itineraries—for deeper Peninsula exploration:
Extended activities include:
• Antarctic Circle attempt: Push south through the Peninsula’s channels toward 66°33’S. Celebrate crossing the Circle with a champagne toast on the ice.
• Lemaire Channel: Navigate the ‘Kodak Gap’ between sheer mountains on water so still it doubles the world.
• Petermann Island: Southernmost gentoo colony, with Adélie penguins. Views to the continent proper.
• Port Lockroy: The historic British base turned museum and post office—send a postcard from Antarctica (it takes 6-8 weeks to arrive).
• Wilhelmina Bay: Known as ‘Whale-mina Bay’ for its extraordinary concentration of humpback whales in February and March.
• Deception Island: The volcanic caldera, abandoned whaling station, and the iconic Polar Plunge.
• Optional kayaking: Extended kayak sessions in areas of exceptional beauty.
• Citizen science: Participate in ongoing research: cloud observations for NASA, phytoplankton sampling, seabird surveys.
