6-Day Faroe Islands Self-Drive Discovery: Tórshavn to Kalsoy, Waterfalls & Cliffs

Day 1: Arrival & Tórshavn

Collect car at Vágar Airport. Drive through the sub-sea tunnel to Tórshavn. Afternoon walking the old town’s turf-roofed lanes, visiting Tinganes, the 825 AD parliament site. Walk to the Skansin lighthouse for harbor views. Evening exploring the city’s vibrant Nordic dining scene—try local favorites like fermented lamb (skerpikjøt) or Atlantic salmon. Overnight Tórshavn.

Day 2: Vágar West — Waterfalls & the Floating Lake

Drive back through the tunnel to Vágar. Morning hike to the Sørvágsvatn/Trælanípa viewpoint where the lake appears to float 100 meters above the ocean. Continue to Bøsdalafossur waterfall. Then drive to Gásadalur village to photograph Múlafossur waterfall cascading directly into the sea. Walk the old postman’s path for clifftop views. Evening drive to the village of Bøur for sunset. Return to Tórshavn. Overnight Tórshavn.

Day 3: Streymoy North — Saksun & Tjørnuvík

Morning drive north to Saksun. Walk the tidal lagoon bed to the black sand beach at low tide, surrounded by 600-meter peaks. Visit the Dúvugarðar farm museum. Continue to Tjørnuvík for the sea stacks Risin and Kellingin. Walk the black sand beach and hike the trails above the village for views toward the northern islands. Stop at Fossá waterfall (140m). Return to Tórshavn. Overnight Tórshavn.

Day 4: Kalsoy — James Bond Country

Drive to Klaksvík. Take the morning ferry to Kalsoy Island. Drive through the narrow tunnels to Trøllanes. Hike the dramatic Kallur Lighthouse trail—a narrow ridge with sheer drops on both sides and a white lighthouse at the end, straight out of a Bond film (literally—No Time to Die’s finale was shot here). Visit Mikladalur to see the Seal Woman statue. Return ferry and drive back to Tórshavn. Overnight Tórshavn.

Day 5: Gjógv & Eysturoy

Drive to Eysturoy. Explore Gjógv, named for its 200-meter sea gorge, with its colorful houses and grass roofs. Walk the gorge rim trail for spectacular views. Visit Funningur, said to be where the first Viking settler Grímur Kamban landed in 825 AD. Drive the dramatic coastal road past Elduvík. Optional: climb Slættaratindur (880m) for the 18-island panorama. Return to Tórshavn. Farewell dinner. Overnight Tórshavn.

Day 6: Departure

Final morning. Return car at Vágar Airport and depart.
