Day 2: Full-day lagoon adventure: snorkeling the barrier reef, visiting Sable Blanc sandbar, and exploring the southern coastline. Afternoon visit to the National Wetland Reserve for mangrove birdwatching. Overnight Mamoudzou.
Day 3: Mayotte to Grande Comore
Morning hike up Mount Choungui for sunrise lagoon views. Visit a ylang-ylang distillery to learn about the island’s most famous export. Afternoon flight to Moroni, Grande Comore. Evening exploration of Moroni’s medina and the historic Friday Mosque (1427). Overnight Moroni.
Day 4: Grande Comore — Karthala Volcano
Full-day expedition to Mount Karthala (2,361m), one of the world’s largest active volcanoes. Trek through montane rainforest on the lower slopes — look for endemic birds including Comoro blue pigeon and Humblot’s flycatcher. Visit the village at the volcano’s base to learn about Karthala’s role in Comorian culture and mythology. Afternoon at Chomoni Beach for a well-deserved swim. Overnight Moroni.
Day 5: Grande Comore — Sultans & Spice Country
Morning visit to Iconi’s clifftop Sultan Palace ruins, followed by the Trou du Prophète blowhole and Lac Niamawi crater lake. Afternoon drive through the vanilla and clove plantations of the northern region around Mitsamiouli. Visit a working spice cooperative. Sunset at the dramatic northernmost point of Grande Comore. Overnight Moroni.
Day 6-7: Mohéli — The Wild Island
Day 6: Morning flight to Mohéli. Transfer to Itsamia beachfront eco-lodge. Afternoon snorkeling in Mohéli Marine Park’s protected waters. Evening briefing on the island’s turtle conservation program. During nesting season (Oct-Mar), night patrol on the beach.
Day 7: Full-day marine expedition. Boat to Ouenefou Island for world-class snorkeling. Look for humpback whales (Jul-Oct), dolphins, and manta rays. Afternoon village visit to learn about sustainable fishing practices. Overnight Itsamia.
Day 8-9: Anjouan — The Spice Island
Day 8: Morning flight to Anjouan. Explore Mutsamudu’s atmospheric 15th-century medina with its spice merchants and silversmiths. Afternoon expedition to see the critically endangered Livingstone’s fruit bats — one of the world’s rarest mammals. Overnight Mutsamudu.
Day 9: Full-day Anjouan exploration: trek through spice forests to Tratringa Waterfall, visit ylang-ylang distilleries, relax at Sambadjou Beach. Evening farewell dinner. Overnight Mutsamudu.
Day 10: Return & Departure
Morning flight from Anjouan to Moroni. Final exploration of the artisan market. Transfer to Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport for departure.
