8-Day Namibia Sand Dunes & Safari: From Etosha to Skeleton Coast

Day 1: Windhoek to Etosha

Depart Windhoek. Stop at Okahandja’s woodcarvers’ market. Continue north to Otjiwarongo and enter the Etosha region. Afternoon game drive in Etosha National Park, visiting waterholes where elephants, giraffes, and zebras congregate. Arrive at your lodge near Etosha’s southern boundary. Overnight near Etosha.

Day 2: Etosha National Park — Full-Day Safari

Full-day game drive in Etosha. Visit Okaukuejo and its legendary floodlit waterhole. The Etosha Pan — visible from space — creates a shimmering white horizon that’s unique among African parks. Search for black rhinos, lions, elephants, and the massive herds of springbok and zebra that make Etosha one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations. Overnight near Etosha.

Day 3: Damaraland — Desert-Adapted Wildlife

Drive through the dramatic landscapes of Damaraland. Visit Twyfelfontein (UNESCO) with its extraordinary 6,000-year-old rock engravings. See the Organ Pipes geological formation. Search for the remarkable desert-adapted elephants that survive in these arid riverbeds — they can go days without water and walk up to 70km in a single night searching for sustenance. Overnight in the Brandberg area.

Day 4: Skeleton Coast — Shipwrecks & Seals

Enter the legendary Skeleton Coast. Visit Cape Cross — the overwhelming spectacle of 200,000+ Cape fur seals. Continue south along the haunting coastline where desert meets ocean, past rusting shipwrecks and endless beaches. Arrive in Swakopmund. Evening exploring this charming German-Namibian town. Overnight Swakopmund.

Day 5: Swakopmund & Walvis Bay

Morning dolphin and seal cruise in Walvis Bay. Afternoon at leisure: quad biking the coastal dunes, sandboarding, visiting the Kristall Galerie (world’s largest quartz crystal), or simply relaxing at a beachfront café with Apfelstrudel and German coffee. Overnight Swakopmund.

Day 6: Swakopmund to Sossusvlei

Drive south through the Namib-Naukluft National Park, one of the world’s oldest and largest conservation areas. Cross the Tropic of Capricorn. Stop at Solitaire for its legendary apple pie. Arrive at Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei. Afternoon visit to Sesriem Canyon. Overnight near Sesriem.

Day 7: Sossusvlei — Sunrise on the Dunes

Pre-dawn start for sunrise on Dune 45 — one of the world’s most photographed landscapes. Walk across Deadvlei’s ancient white clay pan with its blackened 900-year-old tree skeletons. The contrast of white, black, red, and the brilliant blue sky is unforgettable. Afternoon at leisure or optional nature walk. Overnight near Sesriem.

Day 8: Return to Windhoek

Drive through the Khomas Hochland back to Windhoek. Transfer to Windhoek International Airport for departure.
