6-Day Cayman Islands Adventure: Hiking, Caving & Kayaking

Day 1: Arrive Grand Cayman — Coastal Walk & Sunset

Arrive at Owen Roberts International Airport. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon coastal walk along the ironshore of the less-visited south coast — dramatic limestone formations carved by millennia of wave action. Sunset at Smith Cove, a local favorite with natural swimming pools in the eroded rock. Welcome dinner. Overnight Grand Cayman.

Day 2: Mastic Trail & Bioluminescent Bay

Morning hike the Mastic Trail — a 200-year-old footpath crossing Grand Cayman’s last remaining old-growth dry forest. This 4km trail is a journey through time, passing massive mahogany trees, rare orchids, and endemic bird species including the Grand Cayman parrot. Your naturalist guide will bring the forest to life with stories of traditional plant uses and island ecology. Afternoon kayaking through the Central Mangrove Wetland — the largest contiguous mangrove system in the Caribbean. After dark: the main event — kayak into the Bioluminescent Bay, where microscopic plankton create an ethereal blue-green glow with every paddle stroke and movement. It’s pure magic. Overnight Grand Cayman.

Day 3: East End Exploration & Crystal Caves

Venture to Grand Cayman’s untamed East End. Visit the Crystal Caves — a recently opened natural wonder where you descend into stunning limestone caverns filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal-clear underground lakes. Continue to Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park for the blue iguana encounter. Afternoon at the Blowholes — natural geysers where waves force water through coastal rock formations. Lunch at a family-run jerk chicken stand — the real taste of Cayman. Overnight Grand Cayman.

Day 4: Fly to Cayman Brac — Cave Explorer

Morning flight to Cayman Brac. Full day of cave exploration: Peter’s Cave (the largest, with a natural skylight created by a hurricane), Bat Cave (home to a colony of fruit bats), and the remote Halfway Ground Cave deep in the bluff interior. Hike the Brac’s network of trails along the 45-meter-high limestone bluff — dramatic coastal views, endemic cacti, and the Cayman Brac parrot. Afternoon visit to the Brac’s lighthouse for panoramic views. Overnight Cayman Brac.

Day 5: Little Cayman — Untouched Paradise

Morning flight to Little Cayman (population 150). This is the Cayman Islands as they were 50 years ago — no traffic lights, no crowds, just pristine nature. Morning kayaking through the mangroves of South Hole Sound, a shallow lagoon of crystal-clear water. Afternoon at the Booby Pond Nature Reserve — watch thousands of red-footed boobies, magnificent frigatebirds, and the rare West Indian whistling duck. Hike to the remote Point of Sand — often completely empty. Overnight Little Cayman.

Day 6: Sunrise Kayak & Departure

Early morning kayak along Little Cayman’s north coast — the water is impossibly calm at dawn, and rays glide beneath your kayak in water so clear it feels like floating on air. Flight back to Grand Cayman. Connect to international departure.
