Day 1: Malolotja Highlands & Nsangwini Rock Art
Depart from White River/Mbombela, crossing into the Kingdom of Eswatini. First stop: Malolotja Nature Reserve — 18,000 hectares of pristine highveld wilderness with some of Southern Africa’s best mountain hiking. Walk to viewpoints overlooking the Komati River Gorge and search for rare blue swallows and bald ibis. Afternoon visit to Nsangwini Rock Art Shelter — one of Southern Africa’s finest San rock painting sites, with 4,000-year-old depictions of trance dancers, eland, and therianthropes (half-human, half-animal figures). Continue to Ezulwini Valley, the cultural heart of Eswatini. Overnight in Ezulwini.
Day 2: Swazi Culture & Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary
Morning at Mantenga Cultural Village — a living museum showcasing traditional Swazi life. Watch energetic Sibhaca dance performances, tour a reconstructed 1850s Swazi homestead with thatched beehive huts, and learn about Swazi customs from local guides. Visit the nearby Mantenga Falls. Afternoon at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary in the “Valley of Heaven.” Walk or mountain bike among zebra, wildebeest, nyala, and impala — Mlilwane has no dangerous predators, allowing safe self-guided exploration. Stay in traditional Swazi beehive huts nestled at the foot of Nyonyane Mountain. Overnight at Mlilwane.
Day 3: Mabuda Coffee Farm & Return
Morning drive to Siteki in eastern Eswatini’s Lubombo region. Visit Mabuda Coffee Farm — Eswatini’s only commercial coffee estate. Participate in a hands-on “Crop to Cup” session at the Green Shed Roastery, learning about coffee processing from cherry to espresso. Enjoy a farm-fresh lunch overlooking the plantation. Afternoon return to Mbombela.
