Belize Island-Hopping & Sailing: 6-Day Caribbean Beach Adventure

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Belize City — Caribbean Welcome

Arrive at Philip Goldson International Airport. Meet your G Adventures CEO and fellow travelers (18-39). Transfer to Belize City for a welcome meeting. Evening: optional group dinner at a waterfront restaurant — try the fresh conch ceviche or grilled snapper. Overnight in Belize City.

Day 2: Belize City → Caye Caulker by Water Taxi

Morning water taxi to Caye Caulker — a 5-mile-long island where golf carts and bicycles rule. Orientation walk: the sandy main street, The Split (a hurricane-created swimming channel that’s now the island’s social hub), and the colorful “Go Slow” signs that define island philosophy. Afternoon: snorkeling at the local reef just offshore — eagle rays, barracuda, and rainbow parrotfish are common. Sunset at The Split with a Belikin beer. Overnight on Caye Caulker.

Day 3: Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley

Half-day snorkeling trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a 15-minute boat ride from Caye Caulker. Swim through the reef channel alongside hawksbill turtles and moray eels. Then the main event: Shark Ray Alley — waist-deep water where southern stingrays and nurse sharks congregate. Afternoon free: rent a bike and explore the island end-to-end in 30 minutes, learn to make coconut oil from a local co-op, or swing in a hammock. Evening: sunset sailing trip (optional). Overnight on Caye Caulker. (B)

Day 4: Caye Caulker → Tobacco Caye

Boat journey south to Tobacco Caye — a tiny 5-acre island on the barrier reef. With only a handful of overwater cabanas, this is about as remote and romantic as Belize gets. The reef breaks literally at the island’s edge — you can roll out of bed and be snorkeling in minutes. Spend the afternoon exploring the kaleidoscopic coral gardens, watching pelicans dive for fish, and disconnecting from the world. Overnight on Tobacco Caye. (B, D)

Day 5: Tobacco Caye → Dangriga → Hopkins

Morning snorkeling at Tobacco Caye — the reef here is pristine and uncrowded. Afternoon boat transfer to Dangriga, the cultural capital of Belize’s Garifuna people. Visit a Garifuna drumming center to learn about this unique Afro-Indigenous culture — the drumming, the Jankunu dance, and the language recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral Heritage. Continue to the small fishing village of Hopkins. Evening: Garifuna drumming and dance performance on the beach. Overnight in Hopkins. (B)

Day 6: Hopkins → Departure

Final morning in Hopkins — one last swim in the Caribbean. Transfer to Dangriga or Belize City airport for your onward journey. You leave with salt in your hair, sand between your toes, and the rhythm of Garifuna drums in your heart. (B)
