Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Honiara
Welcome at Honiara. Afternoon at leisure. Welcome dinner at a waterfront restaurant overlooking Iron Bottom Sound — named for the staggering number of warships on the seabed below. Overnight in Honiara. (D)
Day 2: Honiara Wreck Diving — Bonegi I, II & III
Full day of shore diving at Honiara’s famous Bonegi wrecks. Bonegi I: the Hirokawa Maru, a 160m Japanese transport sitting on its side in 5-50m of water — accessible to all certification levels, with massive propeller, cargo holds, and anti-aircraft guns. Bonegi II: the Kinugawa Maru, another transport wreck in similarly accessible conditions, now home to lionfish, moray eels, and schools of batfish. Between dives, explore the beach and have a BBQ lunch. Non-divers can snorkel the shallower sections. Overnight in Honiara. (B, L)
Day 3: Tulagi — Florida Islands Wreck Exploration
Boat expedition to Tulagi, the former British colonial capital. Dive the wrecks around Tulagi Harbor: the USS Kanawha (American oiler) and Japanese flying boats (Kawanishi H6K “Mavis”). Between dives, visit Tulagi’s historic sites — the former British Residency and the Japanese tunnels. Snorkel the coral gardens of the Florida Islands. Evening return to Honiara. Overnight in Honiara. (B, L)
Day 4: Honiara → Munda — Western Province
Morning flight to Munda. Check into Agnes Lodge. Afternoon diving or snorkeling: Munda’s reefs offer some of the clearest water in the Solomons, with coral gardens, wall dives, and pelagic fish. Visit the Kindu Point Japanese gun battery and the WWII museum. Overnight at Agnes Lodge. (B, D)
Day 5: Marovo Lagoon — World Heritage Diving
Full-day boat expedition to Marovo Lagoon. The double barrier reef creates a diver’s paradise — pristine coral walls dropping into the deep blue, caves and swim-throughs, and an abundance of marine life including reef sharks, eagle rays, and turtles. Visit a woodcarving village between dives. Picnic lunch on a remote sand cay. Overnight at Agnes Lodge. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Skull Island & Kennedy Island
Boat to Skull Island to see the Roviana headhunter shrine — a powerful cultural experience. Continue to Kennedy Island (PT-109) for snorkeling and fresh coconut. Afternoon: visit Gizo market and town. Farewell dinner and traditional panpipe performance. Overnight at Agnes Lodge. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Munda → Honiara & Departure
Morning flight to Honiara. Connection to international departure. Seven days beneath and above the waves of one of the Pacific’s most extraordinary archipelagos. (B)
