Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Belize City → San Ignacio
Welcome at the international airport. Group transfer to San Ignacio, the gateway to Belize’s Maya heartland. Meet your fellow solo travelers — your CEO (Chief Experience Officer) leads the welcome meeting. Evening: optional group dinner at a local restaurant serving Belizean stew chicken, rice and beans, and fresh tropical fruit. Overnight in San Ignacio.
Day 2: Xunantunich Maya Ruins
Morning visit to Xunantunich — cross the Mopan River by hand-cranked ferry and climb El Castillo, the 40-meter pyramid with ornate stucco friezes. The views from the top span Guatemala on a clear day. Afternoon: visit the San Antonio Women’s Cooperative. Learn traditional pottery making and hear the story of how Maya women are preserving their heritage through craft. Free evening to explore San Ignacio’s restaurants and bars. Overnight in San Ignacio. (B)
Day 3: Actun Tunichil Muknal — The ATM Cave
The day you came to Belize for. An hour’s drive to the trailhead, then 45 minutes hiking through jungle and three river crossings to reach the mouth of the cave. Swim through the entrance, then wade chest-deep through crystal-clear water into a world frozen in time. Ceramic vessels, stone tools, and the famous Crystal Maiden — a calcified human skeleton — all exactly as the Maya left them 1,200 years ago. This is one of the world’s most extraordinary archaeological experiences. Return to San Ignacio. Overnight in San Ignacio. (B, L)
Day 4: Barton Creek Cave Canoe & Caving
Morning canoe journey into Barton Creek Cave — paddle a kilometer underground through chambers once used for Maya ceremonies. Stalactites drip from cathedral-vaulted ceilings while your guide illuminates pottery fragments on high ledges. Afternoon free for optional activities: zip-lining through the jungle canopy, tubing down the Mopan River, or exploring Cahal Pech Maya ruins on foot. Overnight in San Ignacio. (B)
Day 5: San Ignacio → Caye Caulker
Morning transfer to Belize City, then board the water taxi to Caye Caulker. The moment your feet hit the sand, island time begins. Orientation walk: The Split swimming area, the colorful wooden houses, and the beach bars. Watch the sunset from The Split — the social hub of the island. Overnight on Caye Caulker. (B)
Day 6: Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley
Half-day snorkel trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The “Little Channel” in the reef is a protected underwater paradise — sea turtles, moray eels, schools of blue tang, and massive grouper. Then to Shark Ray Alley where nurse sharks and stingrays approach close enough to touch. Afternoon free — rent a bicycle, try stand-up paddleboarding, or nap in a hammock. Optional sunset sailing cruise. Group farewell dinner at a beachfront grill. Overnight on Caye Caulker. (B)
Day 7: Departure
Final morning on the island — one last swim at The Split, one last fresh coconut. Water taxi to Belize City, transfer to the airport. You leave with new friends and incredible memories. (B)
