Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Antananarivo
Welcome to Madagascar! Transfer from Ivato International Airport to your hotel in Antananarivo (Tana), the capital perched on twelve hills. Evening briefing with your guide. Overnight in Tana.
Day 2: Tana to Morondava — Flight to the West
Morning flight to Morondava, gateway to Madagascar’s iconic west coast. After settling in, drive to the legendary Avenue of the Baobabs at golden hour. These majestic Grandidier’s baobabs — some over 800 years old and 30 meters tall — create one of Africa’s most photographed landscapes. Sunset photos among the giants. Overnight in Morondava.
Day 3: Kirindy Reserve — Realm of the Fossa
Full day at Kirindy Reserve, a dry deciduous forest teeming with unique wildlife. Search for the fossa — Madagascar’s largest carnivore, a cat-like predator found nowhere else on Earth. Spot 7 species of lemurs including Verreaux’s sifaka, known for their comical sideways dance. Evening night walk to see mouse lemurs and chameleons. Overnight near Kirindy.
Day 4-5: Tsingy de Bemaraha — UNESCO Stone Forest
Two full days exploring the Grand Tsingy of Bemaraha, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This otherworldly landscape of razor-sharp limestone pinnacles rises up to 70 meters, creating a stone forest that has evolved in isolation for millions of years. Walk across suspension bridges suspended between the pinnacles. Spot Decken’s sifaka lemurs leaping between the needles. Explore caves, canyons, and the Manambolo River gorge. Overnight near Tsingy.
Day 6: Return to Morondava — Baobab Alley Sunrise
Drive back to Morondava. Stop at the Baobab Alley for sunrise — an entirely different spectacle as golden light illuminates the ancient giants. Afternoon at leisure on Morondava’s beach — Madagascar’s west coast has stunning beaches that few tourists ever see. Overnight in Morondava.
Day 7: Morondava to Tana
Morning flight back to Tana. Afternoon city tour: the Queen’s Palace (Rova of Antananarivo) on the highest hill, the Analakely market, and the artisan markets for Malagasy crafts and vanilla. Farewell dinner of traditional Malagasy cuisine. Overnight in Tana.
Day 8: Depart Antananarivo
Morning visit to Lemurs’ Park, a private reserve where you can see 9 lemur species up close. Transfer to airport.
