Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Chisinau — Folk Music Welcome
Transfer to hotel. Evening welcome dinner with live Moldovan folk music (lautari). Overnight in Chisinau.
Day 2: Chisinau — Capital & Culture
City tour: Nativity Cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe, Stefan cel Mare statue. Visit the National Museum of Ethnography — incredible collection of traditional costumes, carpets, and folk art. Afternoon at the Village Museum, an open-air collection of traditional houses from across Moldova. Overnight in Chisinau.
Day 3: Butuceni Village & Orheiul Vechi
Journey to Butuceni village in the Orheiul Vechi complex. Stay in a traditional Moldovan guesthouse (pensiune). Afternoon guided tour of the cave monastery and archaeological site. Hike along the Raut River valley. Evening home-cooked dinner with the host family — mamaliga, sarmale, placinte (pastries), and house wine. Overnight in Butuceni.
Day 4: Village Life — Bread, Wine & Crafts
Spend the day living like a Moldovan villager. Morning: help bake traditional bread in an outdoor clay oven. Visit a local winemaker’s cellar — taste wine from the barrel. Afternoon: learn traditional carpet weaving or embroidery from village women. Hike to Balanesti Hill (429m, Moldova’s highest point). Evening village celebration. Overnight in Butuceni.
Day 5: Tipova & Saharna Monasteries
Travel to Tipova, Moldova’s oldest monastery carved into Dniester cliffs in the 11th century. Walk to the hermit caves and the waterfall. Continue to Saharna Monastery, set in a dramatic gorge with its own waterfalls. Picnic lunch in the forest. Visit Rezina village. Overnight near Saharna.
Day 6: Soroca & the Dniester
Drive to Soroca. Tour the medieval fortress, then visit the fascinating Roma Hill with its extravagant mansions. Afternoon visit to a Roma family for tea and conversation — a rare cultural encounter. Return to Chisinau.
Day 7: Milestii Mici & Wine Cellar Lunch
Morning at Milestii Mici, the Guinness World Record wine collection. Tour the 200km of underground galleries by car. Wine tasting paired with Moldovan cheeses. Farewell lunch in the underground gallery — a unique dining experience. Afternoon free in Chisinau. Farewell celebration dinner.
Day 8: Depart Chisinau
Morning at the central market. Transfer to airport.
