Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Apia — Talofa Lava!
Arrive at Faleolo International Airport. Warm Samoan welcome with fresh coconut and flower ula (lei). Transfer to your beachfront fale (traditional open-air hut) at Lalomanu Beach, consistently rated one of the world’s most beautiful. Watch the sunset over the Pacific from your fale perched on the edge of white sand. Overnight at Lalomanu.
Day 2: Upolu East Coast — Natural Wonders
Full day exploring eastern Upolu. Morning: To Sua Ocean Trench — a 30-meter deep natural swimming hole accessed by a wooden ladder descending into crystal-clear water fed by the ocean through underwater lava tubes. Surrounded by tropical gardens, this is one of the South Pacific’s most photogenic spots. Afternoon: Lalomanu Beach swimming and snorkeling. Visit Fuipisia Waterfall — a 55-meter drop into the jungle. Evening: traditional Samoan umu feast — food cooked in an earth oven with hot volcanic stones. Overnight at Lalomanu.
Day 3: Apia & Robert Louis Stevenson
Transfer to Apia. Morning: visit the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum at Vailima — the beautifully preserved mansion where the famous Scottish author (“Treasure Island,” “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”) spent his final years. Climb to his tomb on Mount Vaea for panoramic views. Afternoon: explore Apia — the colorful Maketi Fou (produce market), the Samoa Cultural Village for traditional tattooing (tatau) demonstrations, and the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Visit the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve for snorkeling. Overnight in Apia.
Day 4: Savai’i — The Big Island
Morning ferry to Savai’i, Samoa’s largest island and one of the biggest shield volcanoes in the South Pacific. Drive to the Alofaaga Blowholes — waves force water through lava tubes, creating geyser-like eruptions up to 30 meters high. Locals demonstrate by throwing coconuts into the blowholes — they shoot up like cannonballs. Visit the Saleaula Lava Fields — a church half-buried by the 1905-1911 Mt. Matavanu eruption. Overnight in Savai’i beach fale.
Day 5: Savai’i — Rainforest & Waterfalls
Explore Savai’i’s interior. Visit the Afu Aau Waterfall — plunge into a deep pool at the base of a curtain of water falling through pristine rainforest. Walk through the Falealupo Rainforest Canopy Walkway suspended 40 meters above the forest floor. Visit the Taga blowholes on Savai’i’s south coast. Afternoon at a traditional village for fiafia night — Samoan fire knife dancing, siva (traditional dance), and a feast. Overnight in Savai’i beach fale.
Day 6: Savai’i to Upolu — Return Journey
Morning visit to the Dwarf’s Cave at Paia — a lava tube with an underground pool. Swim in the fresh waters of the Piula Cave Pool, a natural spring pool beneath a historic Methodist church. Afternoon ferry back to Upolu. Transfer to a resort near the airport. Farewell dinner featuring palusami (taro leaves in coconut cream) and fresh oka (raw fish in coconut). Overnight near Apia.
Day 7: Depart Samoa
Morning at the Apia Fish Market for one last taste of Samoan life. Transfer to Faleolo Airport. Tofa soifua — goodbye and good health.
