Afternoon: the futuristic Heydar Aliyev Center designed by Zaha Hadid — one of the world’s most iconic modern buildings. Ride the funicular to Highland Park for city panoramas. Overnight in Baku.
Day 3: Gobustan Rock Art & Mud Volcanoes
Morning excursion to Gobustan National Park (UNESCO) — over 6,000 ancient petroglyphs dating back 40,000 years depicting prehistoric life. Continue to Azerbaijan’s famous mud volcanoes (over 350, the most in the world). Watch cold mud bubble and erupt from the earth. Visit the Bibi-Heybat Mosque. Overnight in Baku.
Day 4: Absheron Peninsula — Fire & Flames
Visit Ateshgah Fire Temple in Surakhany — a pentagonal Zoroastrian fire-worshipping temple with an eternally burning flame. Continue to Yanar Dag (Burning Mountain), where natural gas seeps have been burning continuously for thousands of years on a hillside. Unforgettable sight, especially at dusk. Overnight in Baku.
Day 5: Gabala — Caucasus Mountain Resort
Drive north to Gabala, a stunning alpine resort nestled in the Caucasus foothills. Cable car ride at Tufandag Mountain Resort with panoramic mountain views. Visit Nohur Lake surrounded by forest — boat ride and relaxation. Explore the ancient Chukhur Gabala archaeological site. Overnight in Gabala.
Day 6: Sheki — Silk Road Heritage
Journey to Sheki, a historic Silk Road city at the foot of the Greater Caucasus.
