Day 1: Arrive Windhoek
Arrive at Windhoek International Airport. Transfer to your hotel. Afternoon orientation tour of Namibia’s compact capital: the Christuskirche (German Lutheran church built 1910), the Tintenpalast (Ink Palace — the parliament building), and the Independence Memorial Museum. Welcome dinner at Joe’s Beerhouse — a Windhoek institution. Overnight Windhoek.
Day 2: Windhoek to Okonjati
Depart Windhoek. Stop at Okahandja’s famous woodcarvers’ market — Namibia’s best source for Makalani nut carvings and Ovambo baskets. Continue to Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary. Afternoon game drive — your first taste of Namibian wildlife with giraffe, zebra, oryx, and kudu. Sundowner at the waterhole. Overnight Okonjati.
Day 3: Etosha — Okaukuejo
Enter Etosha National Park. Game drive toward Okaukuejo, visiting waterholes along the way. The Etosha Pan stretches 130km — so vast and flat that it’s visible from space. Afternoon at Okaukuejo’s famous floodlit waterhole. As darkness falls, the show begins: black rhinos emerge from the shadows, elephants trumpet, and lions roar in the distance. This is widely considered Africa’s best waterhole viewing. Overnight Okaukuejo.
Day 4: Etosha — Halali
Full day traversing Etosha. Morning game drive through open plains and mopane woodland. Visit the Haunted Forest — a grove of dead camelthorn trees on the pan’s edge that create ghostly silhouettes. Afternoon at Halali’s waterhole, known for leopard sightings. Evening walk up to the Halali lookout over the endless Etosha Pan. Overnight Halali.
Day 5: Etosha East & Himba Cultural Visit
Final Etosha game drive through the eastern section. Exit the park and journey to Kamanjab. Afternoon visit to a traditional Himba village — one of the most authentic cultural experiences in Africa. The Himba are semi-nomadic pastoralists known for their distinctive red-ochre body paint (otjize) and intricate hairstyles. Learn about their traditions, beliefs, and daily life directly from community members. Overnight Kamanjab.
Day 6: Damaraland & Twyfelfontein
Journey into dramatic Damaraland. Visit Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage site with over 2,500 rock engravings dating back 6,000 years — Africa’s largest concentration of petroglyphs. See depictions of rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and shamanic figures. Continue to the Organ Pipes — 150-million-year-old dolerite columns. Search for desert-adapted elephants in the dry riverbeds. Overnight Palmwag.
Day 7: Skeleton Coast — Shipwrecks of the Namib
Enter the Skeleton Coast National Park — 16,000 km² of raw, unspoiled wilderness. The name comes from the whale and seal bones that once littered the shore, and the more than 1,000 ships that have met their end here. Visit the rusting remains of the Eduard Bohlen (wrecked 1907), now stranded hundreds of meters inland as the desert has encroached on the sea. Continue south past endless dunes meeting the Atlantic. Overnight near the coast.
Day 8: Cape Cross & Swakopmund
Morning at Cape Cross — the deafening, aromatic spectacle of over 200,000 Cape fur seals. Walk the boardwalks above the colony for an unforgettable close-up view. Continue to Swakopmund, the charming coastal town where Namibia’s German colonial heritage meets the Atlantic Ocean. Afternoon walking tour of Swakopmund’s landmarks: the Woermannhaus (1906), the jetty, the lighthouse, and the Alte Kaserne. Overnight Swakopmund.
Day 9: Swakopmund — Free Day
Free day for optional activities. Choose from: quad biking across massive coastal dunes, sandboarding, dolphin/seal cruises in Walvis Bay, scenic flights over Skeleton Coast shipwrecks, kayaking with seals at Pelican Point, or exploring Swakopmund’s museums and galleries. Evening at the famous Tug Restaurant, built inside an old tugboat overlooking the ocean. Overnight Swakopmund.
Day 10: Walvis Bay to Sesriem
Morning at Walvis Bay Lagoon — photograph thousands of flamingos and pelicans with dunes as backdrop. Optional marine cruise. Continue south through the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Cross the Tropic of Capricorn. Stop at Solitaire for its legendary apple pie. Arrive at Sesriem, gateway to Sossusvlei. Overnight Sesriem.
Day 11: Sossusvlei — Sunrise on the Dunes
Pre-dawn departure to witness sunrise on the world’s highest sand dunes. Climb Dune 45 or the even taller Big Daddy (325m) as the first light transforms the sand into a sea of red and gold. Walk across Deadvlei — the iconic white clay pan with 900-year-old dead camelthorn trees. Visit Sesriem Canyon. Afternoon at leisure to absorb the extraordinary beauty of the oldest desert on Earth. Overnight near Sossusvlei.
Day 12: Return to Windhoek & Departure
Drive through the Khomas Hochland back to Windhoek. Final souvenir shopping at the craft market. Transfer to Windhoek International Airport for departure.
