Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tongatapu — Kingdom Welcome

Arrive at Fua’amotu International Airport. Transfer to your beachfront resort in Nuku’alofa. Afternoon at leisure — stroll along the waterfront, swim at the resort’s lagoon pool, or simply relax after your journey. Welcome dinner featuring fresh seafood and traditional Tongan dishes at a waterfront restaurant. Overnight in Nuku’alofa.

Day 2: Nuku’alofa — Royal & Ancient Tonga

Full-day exploration of Tongatapu. Visit the Royal Palace, a Victorian-style wooden building completed in 1867 and still used by the Tongan royal family. Tour the Royal Tombs and the Centenary Church. Afternoon visit to the Ha’amonga ‘a Maui Trilithon — a remarkable stone structure built around 1200 AD that served as a royal gateway. Continue to the Langi terraced tombs where ancient Tongan kings were buried. Watch the spectacular Mapu’a ‘a Vaea blowholes at sunset. Overnight in Nuku’alofa.

Day 3: Anahulu Cave & Eastern Tongatapu

Morning visit to Anahulu Cave, a stunning limestone cave system with an underground freshwater pool. Swim in the crystal-clear water surrounded by stalactites and stalagmites. Continue to the eastern side of the island to visit Captain Cook’s Landing Place, where the famous explorer came ashore in 1777. Afternoon snorkeling at Ha’atafu Beach, one of Tongatapu’s best snorkeling spots with protected coral gardens. Overnight in Nuku’alofa.

Day 4: Fafa Island Day Escape

Full-day excursion to Fafa Island, a small palm-covered islet in the lagoon north of Tongatapu. Just a 30-minute boat ride from Nuku’alofa, this protected marine reserve offers some of the best snorkeling in Tonga. Swim over pristine coral gardens teeming with tropical fish. Lunch at the island’s eco-resort. Afternoon free for kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing in a hammock. Return to Nuku’alofa at sunset. Overnight in Nuku’alofa.

Day 5: Traditional Tongan Culture Day

Full day dedicated to experiencing authentic Tongan culture. Morning visit to a local village where you’ll participate in a kava ceremony and learn about Tonga’s unique social hierarchy and respect-based society. Watch demonstrations of tapa cloth making from mulberry bark, mat weaving, and traditional woodcarving. Afternoon Tongan cooking class — learn to prepare dishes like ‘ota ika (raw fish in coconut cream), lu pulu (taro leaves with corned beef), and feke (octopus in coconut). Enjoy your creations for dinner with a traditional ‘umu underground oven feast. Overnight in Nuku’alofa.

Day 6: Nuku’alofa Departure

Morning visit to the Talamahu Market to purchase authentic Tongan handicrafts: hand-painted tapa cloth, vanilla beans, woven pandanus mats, and whale bone carvings.
