Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Dakar Immersion
Arrive Dakar. Day 2: comprehensive city tour — Museum of Black Civilizations, African Renaissance Monument, IFAN Museum, Sandaga Market, and the artists’ village of Village des Arts. Evening at a live mbalax show. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 3: Goree Island
Full day on Goree Island — House of Slaves, Historical Museum, Maritime Museum. Lunch at a beachfront restaurant. Afternoon with local artists. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 4-5: Lac Rose & Lompoul Desert
Day 4: Lac Rose and salt harvesters. Day 5: Lompoul Desert — camel trek, sandboarding, traditional dinner under the stars. Overnights in desert camp and Thiès.
Day 6-7: Saint-Louis & Djoudj
UNESCO Saint-Louis — colonial architecture, jazz clubs, fishing villages. Djoudj National Park — pelican spectacle at dawn. Overnight in Saint-Louis.
Day 8: Touba & the Baol Region
Visit Touba’s Grand Mosque. Continue to Diourbel and the peanut basin, Senegal’s agricultural heartland. Overnight in Kaolack.
Day 9-10: Saloum Delta
Two days in the UNESCO Saloum Delta. Pirogue trips, Fadiouth shell island, mangrove exploration, and Serer village visits. Overnight in Palmarin.
Day 11-12: Casamance — The Green South
Cross into Casamance. Ziguinchor, Diola villages, palm wine, forest walks. Day at Cap Skirring’s beaches. Overnight in Cap Skirring.
Day 13: Bassari Country
Journey into the Kedougou region to visit Bassari and Bedik villages in the hills of southeastern Senegal (UNESCO). Traditional animist cultures, mountain landscapes wholly unexpected in West Africa. Overnight in Kedougou.
Day 14: Niokolo-Koba National Park
Game drive in Senegal’s largest national park — lions, elephants, hippos, and the rare Derby eland. Afternoon drive north. Overnight in Tambacounda.
Day 15: Return to Dakar & Depart
Scenic drive back to Dakar. Transfer to airport.
