Tour Highlights
This comprehensive 4-day private tour combines the best of Vatican City with Rome’s greatest treasures, all with skip-the-line access and a dedicated art historian guide.
Itinerary Framework
Day 1: Imperial Rome — Colosseum & Roman Forum
Private tour of the Colosseum with exclusive underground access (hypogeum) — walk the arena floor where gladiators fought and explore the subterranean chambers where wild animals and fighters awaited their fate. Continue through the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill where Rome was founded. Evening: aperitivo in Trastevere. Overnight near Vatican City.
Day 2: Vatican City Complete
Full Vatican immersion: early-access Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museums (Raphael Rooms, Gallery of Maps, Belvedere Torso, Borgia Apartments), St Peter’s Basilica with dome climb, Vatican Necropolis (Scavi), and Vatican Gardens. This is the Vatican at its most comprehensive. Evening: private rooftop dinner with St Peter’s dome view. Overnight near Vatican City.
Day 3: Baroque Rome & Hidden Gems
Morning: Borghese Gallery (Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne, Caravaggio’s paintings) — Rome’s most exclusive museum, limited to 2-hour visits with advance tickets. Walk through Villa Borghese gardens. Afternoon: Baroque Rome walking tour — Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona (Bernini’s Four Rivers Fountain), Pantheon (the best-preserved ancient Roman building, with Raphael’s tomb), and the Church of Sant’Ignazio with its astonishing trompe l’oeil ceiling. Evening: pasta-making class with a Roman chef. Overnight near Vatican City.
Day 4: Papal Audience & Catacombs — Departure
If Wednesday: attend the Papal Audience in St Peter’s Square (free, but tickets required). Morning: visit the Catacombs of San Callisto on the Appian Way, where early Christians buried their dead and worshipped in secret. Visit the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls, one of Rome’s four papal basilicas. Afternoon transfer to airport.
