Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Koror — Welcome to Palau
Arrive at Roman Tmetuchl International Airport. Transfer to your hotel in Koror, Palau’s main population center. Welcome fresh coconut and briefing. Evening stroll along the Koror waterfront and dinner at a local seafood restaurant. Palau is a country of 340 islands, with just 9 inhabited, surrounded by some of the richest marine biodiversity on Earth. Overnight in Koror.
Day 2: Rock Islands UNESCO World Heritage — Jellyfish Lake
Full-day boat excursion into the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon (UNESCO World Heritage). Morning: Jellyfish Lake, one of the world’s most extraordinary natural phenomena — a marine lake where millions of golden jellyfish have evolved without stingers, allowing swimmers to float among them in an ethereal, dreamlike experience. Afternoon: snorkeling at Milky Way, a limestone cove where you cover yourself in white mineral mud for a natural spa treatment. Visit the Rock Islands’ iconic mushroom-shaped islets — 445 limestone islands covered in emerald vegetation rising from impossibly turquoise water. Overnight in Koror.
Day 3: Peleliu Island — WWII Battlefield & History
Full-day speedboat trip to Peleliu Island (1.5 hours from Koror). Visit the WWII historical sites from the 1944 Battle of Peleliu — one of the Pacific War’s bloodiest battles. Explore the Thousand Man Cave, a massive limestone cavern used by Japanese forces as a field hospital. Walk through the Japanese Command Center, a concrete bunker still showing battle damage. Visit Bloody Nose Ridge, where US Marines suffered devastating casualties. See tanks, aircraft wreckage, and artillery pieces still lying where they fell 80+ years ago. Afternoon: the Peleliu WWII Memorial Museum. Beach picnic lunch. Return to Koror by sunset. Overnight in Koror.
Day 4: Blue Corner — The World’s Best Dive Site
Full-day diving expedition for certified divers (non-divers can snorkel from the boat). Blue Corner is consistently voted one of the world’s top dive sites. The current sweeps across a plateau at 60 feet, then drops into the abyss at 1,000+ feet. Hook into the reef at the corner and watch the show: schools of grey reef sharks, barracudas swirling in tornado formation, eagle rays gliding past, Napoleon wrasses, and massive dogtooth tuna. Two tank dives + surface interval on a deserted sandbar. Overnight in Koror.
Day 5: German Channel & Big Drop-Off
Another world-class dive day. German Channel: a man-made cut through the reef where manta rays gather to feed on plankton funneled through the channel. Visibility typically exceeds 100 feet. The cleaning stations attract mantas with wingspans up to 15 feet. Second dive at Big Drop-Off, a vertical wall starting at just 15 feet and plunging beyond recreational limits, covered in giant sea fans, black corals, and colorful soft corals. Snorkelers can drift along the wall top seeing abundant marine life. Overnight in Koror.
Day 6: Badrulchau Stone Monoliths & Babeldaob Island
Full day on Babeldaob, Palau’s largest island (Babeldaob is the 2nd largest island in Micronesia after Guam). Visit the Badrulchau Stone Monoliths — ancient stone pillars (some up to 7 feet tall) arranged in two rows, dating from approximately 150 AD. Their purpose remains mysterious — possibly the foundation of a massive bai (meeting house) or a ceremonial site. Visit the Ngarchelong Bai, a traditional men’s meeting house built entirely without nails using ancient techniques. Afternoon: Ngardmau Waterfall, Palau’s tallest waterfall cascading 100 feet through the jungle. Overnight in Koror.
Day 7: Kayangel Atoll — Palau’s Northern Paradise
Full-day boat trip to Kayangel Atoll, Palau’s only true atoll and the northernmost state (2 hours from Koror). Four tiny islets on a pristine coral ring. Walking around the inhabited islet takes about 30 minutes — this is remote Pacific paradise at its finest. Snorkeling in the atoll’s lagoon with healthy coral gardens and abundant fish. Beach picnic of fresh fish grilled on the sand. Afternoon visit to the uninhabited islets. Return to Koror by sunset. Overnight in Koror.
Day 8: Ulong Island & Shark City
Dive/snorkel day at Ulong Channel, another world-class site. Drift dive through a channel where grey reef sharks school in the current. Visit Shark City, where 20-30 reef sharks circle at a cleaning station. Non-divers snorkel the shallows where blacktip reef sharks cruise just below the surface. Afternoon: Ngermeaus Island for the best beach on the Rock Islands — pure white sand and crystal clear water. Overnight in Koror.
Day 9: Etpison Museum & Koror Culture
Morning at the Etpison Museum, Palau’s finest museum with exhibits on Palauan culture, storyboards (carved wooden narrative panels unique to Palau), traditional navigation, and WWII history. Afternoon: visit a traditional Palauan village for a cultural demonstration — learn about matrilineal society (one of the few in the world where women traditionally own the land), try betel nut chewing, and watch storyboard carving. Farewell dinner at a floating restaurant in the Rock Islands. Overnight in Koror.
Day 10: Depart Palau
Morning visit to the Palau Aquarium. Transfer to airport.
