3D2N Essential Mulu Showcaves — Gunung Mulu National Park

Overview

Journey into the heart of Sarawak’s Gunung Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its extraordinary limestone karst formations and massive cave systems. This 3-day guided tour explores all four show caves, including Deer Cave — the world’s largest cave passage — and Clearwater Cave, one of the longest cave systems in Asia. Witness the nightly spectacle of millions of bats emerging at dusk in one of nature’s most dramatic displays.

Day 1: Arrive Mulu — Deer Cave & Langs Cave

Upon arrival at Mulu Airport, meet your guide and transfer to Gunung Mulu National Park headquarters. Check into your Longhouse Room. Free time to explore the park’s interpretation centre and have lunch (own account). At 2:15 PM, depart the HQ on a scenic 3 km plankwalk through pristine primary rainforest to Deer Cave. The cave entrance alone measures 150 m wide by 120 m high — an awe-inspiring sight. Inside, explore the moon-like landscape and spot the natural “profile of President Lincoln” rock formation. Next, visit Langs Cave, showcasing the park’s finest stalactites and stalagmites with delicate lace-like patterns. At dusk, proceed to the Bat Observatory to witness the spectacular exodus of approximately 2 million free-tailed bats spiraling out of the cave entrance in search of food. Trek back to HQ by torchlight. Overnight at park accommodation.

Day 2: Clearwater Cave & Wind Cave

After breakfast, depart at 8:45 AM by traditional longboat up the Melinau River to Wind Cave. Explore the impressive King’s Chamber with its delicate stalactite and stalagmite formations. A short plankwalk beside the limestone cliff and a climb of about 250 steps lead to the entrance of Clearwater Cave. Marvel at the underground river system and unique flora including the rare one-leafed plant found only at Mulu. After the cave exploration, enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear natural pool shaded by giant rainforest trees. Picnic lunch by the river before returning to accommodation. Afternoon at leisure. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 3: Depart Mulu

Enjoy a final breakfast at the park. Free time until transfer to Mulu Airport for your departure flight. (Breakfast)
