Itinerary Highlights

Day 1-2: Nouakchott & Atlantic Coast

Explore Mauritania’s capital: Port de Pêche fish market, National Museum, the camel market, and the vibrant craft souk. Day 2 drive to the Banc d’Arguin National Park (UNESCO World Heritage), a critical stopover for millions of migratory birds along the East Atlantic Flyway — flamingos, pelicans, and terns in staggering numbers. Visit traditional Imraguen fishing villages.

Day 3-4: Adrar & Chinguetti

Journey into the Adrar region. Two days exploring Chinguetti’s ancient libraries, Ouadane’s ruins, and the astonishing Eye of the Sahara. Camp under the Saharan stars, the Milky Way blazing across an unpolluted sky.

Day 5: Terjit Oasis

Full day in Terjit, swimming and relaxing in the canyon oasis. Meet nomadic families who bring their herds to drink at the springs. Traditional Mauritanian mint tea ceremony.

Day 6: Iron Ore Train — World’s Longest Train

Drive to Nouadhibou. Ride a section of the legendary Iron Ore Train — one of the world’s longest and heaviest trains at 2.5km, carrying iron ore 700km across the Sahara to the Atlantic coast. Choose between the passenger carriage or the adventurous open-top ore wagon (experienced travelers only).

Day 7: Nouadhibou & Cap Blanc

Visit Cap Blanc (Ras Nouadhibou), where the Sahara plunges into the Atlantic. One of the world’s largest ship graveyards — dozens of abandoned vessels rusting on the shore. Visit the monk seal colony. Drive back to Nouakchott via the coastal road.

Day 8: Departure

Final morning in Nouakchott. Transfer to airport.
