Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Malta
Welcome to Malta, where history spans 7,000 years! Airport transfer to your hotel in Sliema. Evening orientation walk along the Sliema waterfront with views of Valletta’s majestic bastions across the harbor. Welcome dinner with Maltese ftira (traditional bread) and local wine. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 2: Valletta — UNESCO Capital of Culture
Full day in Valletta, Europe’s smallest capital city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the stunning St. John’s Co-Cathedral — the plain exterior hides an explosion of baroque gold, marble, and Caravaggio’s masterpiece “The Beheading of St. John.” Walk through the Upper Barrakka Gardens for Grand Harbour views. Explore the Grand Master’s Palace and the Malta Experience audiovisual show. Afternoon at leisure for boutique shopping. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 3: Mdina & Rabat — The Silent City
Morning visit to Mdina, Malta’s ancient capital known as the “Silent City” — a perfectly preserved medieval walled town with narrow alleys, baroque palazzos, and breathtaking views from the bastions. Walk the same streets used as King’s Landing in Game of Thrones. Continue to Rabat for St. Paul’s Catacombs, an underground Roman burial complex. Visit the Domus Romana mosaics. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 4: Gozo — Malta’s Sister Island
Ferry to Gozo, Malta’s greener, more laid-back sister island. Visit the Ggantija Temples (UNESCO), megalithic structures older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids — among the oldest freestanding buildings in the world. Explore the Citadel in Victoria (Rabat) with its medieval streets and panoramic views. Visit the stunning Dwejra Bay, site of the former Azure Window (collapsed 2017) and the Inland Sea. Swim in the Blue Hole. Overnight on Gozo.
Day 5: Gozo — Salt Pans & Xlendi Bay
Morning at Xlendi Bay for a coastal walk. Explore the traditional salt pans — a 350-year-old tradition still practiced today. Visit Ta’ Pinu Basilica, a stunning isolated church in the countryside. Afternoon hike to Wied il-Ghasri, a hidden gorge leading to a secluded pebble beach. Gozitan ftira lunch at a farmhouse. Evening ferry back to Malta. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 6: Blue Grotto & Marsaxlokk Fishing Village
Morning boat trip to the Blue Grotto, a series of sea caves where the water glows an impossible shade of blue. Continue to Marsaxlokk, Malta’s most picturesque fishing village with its colorful traditional luzzu boats (with protective Eye of Osiris painted on the prow). Visit the bustling Sunday fish market (if Sunday). Seafood lunch at a waterfront restaurant. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 7: Hagar Qim & Mosta Dome
Visit Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples (UNESCO), megalithic temples perched on a cliff overlooking the sea — 5,500 years old and aligned with the solstices. Afternoon at the Mosta Rotunda, whose massive unsupported dome (the third largest in Europe) miraculously survived a German bomb in WWII — the bomb pierced the dome but never exploded. Farewell dinner at a Valletta rooftop restaurant. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 8: Depart Malta
Morning visit to the local pastizzi shop for flaky ricotta pastries. Transfer to Malta International Airport.
