Day 1: Arrive Antananarivo

Day 2: Andasibe National Park — Indri Lemurs
Drive east through terraced rice paddies and misty highlands to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. Afternoon visit to Analamazaotra Reserve to hear the haunting calls of the indri — Madagascar’s largest lemur, whose wailing song echoes 4km through the forest. Evening night walk to spot mouse lemurs, chameleons, and tree frogs. Overnight at Mantadia Lodge.
Day 3: Andasibe — Lemur Island & Vakona
Morning in Andasibe’s primary forest — search for indri, diademed sifaka, and the rare bamboo lemur. Afternoon at Vakona Private Reserve and its famous Lemur Island, where habituated lemurs may leap onto your shoulders. Overnight at Mantadia Lodge.
Day 4: Antsirabe — The Thermal City
Drive south through the highlands to Antsirabe, Madagascar’s elegant spa town at 1,500m. Visit the volcanic Lake Tritriva and the thermal springs. Explore artisan workshops — Antsirabe is famous for its handcrafted aluminum cookware, zebu-horn jewelry, and embroidered tablecloths. Ride a pousse-pousse (rickshaw) through the wide, tree-lined boulevards. Overnight in Antsirabe.
Day 5: Ambositra — Zafimaniry Woodcarving
Continue south to Ambositra, the capital of Madagascar’s woodcarving tradition. Visit Zafimaniry artisans whose geometric woodcarving knowledge is recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Afternoon drive through the stunning highland landscapes. Overnight near Ambositra.
Day 6: Ranomafana National Park — Rainforest
Full day exploring Ranomafana National Park, Madagascar’s most biodiverse rainforest. Search for the golden bamboo lemur (discovered here in 1986), the greater bamboo lemur, and Milne-Edwards’ sifaka. The park hosts 12 lemur species, 115 bird species, and countless reptiles and amphibians. Hot springs soak at the park’s thermal baths. Overnight near Ranomafana.
Day 7: Fianarantsoa — The Vineyards
Visit Fianarantsoa, Madagascar’s cultural and educational capital. Tour the historic upper town with its charming 19th-century architecture and cathedral. Visit Madagascar’s only vineyards in the surrounding hills. Afternoon drive back towards Tana. Overnight in Antsirabe.
Day 8: Return to Tana
Drive back to Antananarivo. Afternoon visit to the Lemurs’ Park and the artisan markets. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Tana.
Day 9: Depart Madagascar
Transfer to Ivato Airport. Depart with memories of dancing lemurs and ancient baobabs.
