Day 1: Arrive Monrovia
Airport welcome and transfer to your Monrovia hotel. Afternoon: walking tour of historic Monrovia — Providence Island (the 1822 landing site of freed American slaves), Providence Baptist Church, the Centennial Pavilion, and the Masonic Temple. Sunset at the Ducor Hotel ruins — the view over Monrovia and the Atlantic is extraordinary. Welcome dinner: try Liberian pepper soup and grilled barracuda. Overnight in Monrovia. (D)
Day 2: Chimpanzee Islands & Waterside Market
Morning boat trip to the Monkey Island chimpanzee sanctuary in the Farmington River. These forested islands house retired research chimpanzees living in near-wild conditions — observe them from the boat feeding, grooming, and interacting. Return to Monrovia. Afternoon: dive into Waterside Market — Liberia’s largest and most chaotic market, where you’ll find everything from country cloth to bush meat to Chinese imports. Visit the National Museum. Evening: dinner at a beachfront restaurant on the Atlantic coast. Overnight in Monrovia. (B)
Day 3: Departure
Morning free for last explorations — perhaps Ce Ce Beach for a final Atlantic swim. Transfer to Roberts International Airport. Liberia in three days — intense, eye-opening, unforgettable. (B)
